Homeschool Enlists Bartees Strange and Arlissa for ‘Smartest Man’ Remix

Singer-songwriter Tom D’Agustino, who records under the moniker Homeschool, has enlisted Bartees Strange and indie-pop singer Arlissa for a remix of his song ‘Smartest Man’. The track, originally a collaboration with Samia, is taken from D’Agustino’s upcoming debut EP Homeschool: Book 1. Check out both the original and the remix below.

“‘Smartest Man’ was written in 2019 with the help of the super-talented Samia,” D’Agustino said of the track upon its release last month. “The song itself drifts between different meanings about responsibility, maturity, and the paradox of traditional forms of masculinity.”

Talking about the remix, Bartees Strange told Paste: “I wanted to take this song into a different space. The message of the song hit me a little darker than the song intended, so I sort of decided to take it that way. Also — knowing Arlissa would be singing alongside me, I wanted to make something that jumped a little bit.”

Produced by David Greenbaum, Homeschool: Book 1 is due out on April 23. In addition to Bartees Strange, it also features reworkings from Jessica Lea Mayfield, Overcoats, and Billy Lemos. Bartees Strange previously covered Samia’s ‘Pool’.
