Lorde Discusses ‘Solar Power’ Album Cover, Touring on ‘Colbert’

Lorde appeared on the latest episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to discuss her forthcoming album Solar Power, which arrives August 20. She talked about the album’s cover artwork, her upcoming world tour, and promised she would soon return to the talk show for a live performance. Watch the interview below.

When Colbert mentioned he was not allowed to show the album’s cover artwork and asked her about the inspiration for it, Lorde explained: “My friend just took it. It was just me jumping over a friend on the beach. … It’s a little hardcore, but it was so joyful to me. It felt innocent and playful and a little bit feral, and I don’t know, sexy. I like the image a lot.”

Colbert also asked her how she feels about being in front of audiences again. “I’m really excited. It sort of doesn’t seem real, but I’m super keen,” she said. “This album is so joyful and big and such a good thing to experience with a bunch of people, so I’m glad the timing worked out that we could do a tour.”

Revealing that she will be performing at the talk show’s venue, she said, “I’m coming to you and I’m bringing a lot of my friends and we’re gonna show you what ‘Solar Power’ is about.”
