If the latest Netflix series to make a splash is to be believed, viewers are hungry for emotional, family-oriented stories. Little House on the Prairie, inspired by the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, is part survival tale and part origin story of the American West.
With 6.4 million views this week, the drama is quickly climbing the charts, landing at #3 on the global list for English shows. It’s also a top 10 show in 73 countries. Does this mean that a follow-up might be on the way? Here’s what we know so far.
Little House on the Prairie Season 2 Release Date
Fans of the new Little House on the Prairie can breathe easy: a second season is already on the way! The show has been renewed for additional episodes ahead of its premiere.
“We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story,” showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine said.
If all goes well, Little House on the Prairie season 2 could arrive in summer 2027.

What Could Happen in Little House on the Prairie Season 2?
If the name sounds familiar, the books have already inspired a successful ‘70s TV series. This new adaptation presents the Ingalls family’s story as a mix of a frontier survival drama and family saga.
The story begins as Charles and Caroline Ingalls leave the Big Woods of Wisconsin with their daughters in search of a better future in Kansas. They build a homestead near Independence, but hardship keeps following them around. Before long, the family faces harsh weather, isolation, crop failures, and financial uncertainty. There are also growing tensions surrounding the fact that the land belongs to the Osage Nation.
By the end of the first season, the Ingalls can no longer afford to stay in Kansas, so they have to chase a fresh start. Little House on the Prairie season 2 will pick up from there, seeing the family relocate to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. It will also introduce Nellie Oleson, whom readers might know from the books, played by Willa Dunn.
