The Killers Share New Single ‘Dying Breed’

0

As they gear up for the release of their upcoming album, Imploding the Mirage, The Killers have shared a new single titled ‘Dying Breed’. Check it out below.

Frontman Brandon Flowers revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that the track was a collaboration with producer Flood, who previously worked with them on 2006’s Sam’s Town. He said that he helped give the song “an industrial vibe”, adding: “What I love about Flood is he doesn’t have a problem x-ing something out if he doesn’t like it. What he did with it was a lot more stark than what we would have done, but it kept the spirit of the song. It has a heart to it that really grabs you.”

The Killers previously released the singles ‘My Own Soul’s Warning’, ‘Fire in Bone’, and ‘Caution’. After being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the follow-up to 2017’s Wonderful, Wonderful comes out on August 21st via Island.

The Rolling Stones and The War on Drugs Team Up for ‘Scarlet’ Remix

0

Last month, the Rolling Stones unveiled a previously-unheard track called ‘Scarlet’, which featured Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Now, they’ve collaborated with the War on Drugs for a new remix of the track. Listen to it below.

“I just re-imagined the song as if I had Mick, Keith and Jimmy in the room with me,” The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel said in a statement. “After messing with my Linn Drum for a bit, the song fell into this double time thing and I just went with it. I called my friend and bandmate, Dave Hartley, to fill out the bass on the new groove.”

“Then I figured if I had Jimmy Page in the room I’d probably ask him to plug into my favorite rack flanger so that’s what I did,” he continued. “My friend Anthony LaMarca added some last minute percussion. I’m so honored to have gotten to work on this especially since ‘Angie’ was probably the first ‘rock’ song that I asked to be played on repeat when I was really young. Hope you enjoy it!”

‘Scarlet’ was originally recorded in 1974 during a session in Ronnie Wood’s basement. The original version of the track will feature on the forthcoming reissue of the band’s 1973 album Goats Head Soup, along with the recently unveiled ‘Criss Cross’. The War on Drugs’ last LP was 2017’s A Deeper Understanding.

The prolific psych rock outfit added that they’ve made “heaps of tunes lately” and are “currently putting some sparkles on em.”

‘Some of Us’ marks the band’s second single of the summer following ‘Honey’. Their last album was Infest the Rats’ Nest, released last summer.

Elvis Costello Announces New Album ‘Hey Clockface’, Shares New Song

0

Elvis Costello has announced a new album titled Hey Clockface, out October 30 via Concord. Accompanying the announcement, Costello has unveiled a new track called ‘We Are All Cowards Now’. Check it out below, and scroll down for the album’s cover artwork and tracklist.

Recorded in Helsinki, Paris, and New York, the 14-track LP features Elvis Costello’s longtime bandmate Steve Nieve, in addition to Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, Mickaél Gasche, Pierre-François “Titi” Dufour, and others. It includes the previously released singles ‘No Flag’ and ‘Hetty O’Hara Confidential’.

“I sang live on the studio floor, directing from the vocal booth,” Costello said of the new album in a statement. “We cut nine songs in two days. We spoke very little. Almost everything the musicians played was a spontaneous response to the song I was singing. I’d had a dream of recording in Paris like this, one day.”

He continued: “I wanted to write “Helsinki-Paris-???” on the record jacket like this was a perfume or an advertising agency. “London” was a possibility for the third city but London is forever. We’ll be there again. Michael sent this music to me from New York at the perfect time. It connected to elements in both of the previous sessions and completed the picture.”

“I wanted the record to be vivid, whether the songs demanded playing that was loud and jagged or intimate and beautiful,” he added.

Elvis Costello And The Imposters released the EP Purse in 2019. Their last full-length release was 2018’s Look Now.

Sun Kil Moon’s Mark Kozelek Accused of Sexual Misconduct by Three Women

0

WARNING: This article contains descriptions of sexual assault some readers might find upsetting.

Mark Kozelek, the musician behind Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters, has been accused of sexual misconduct by three women. These allegations, reported by Pitchfork in a new investigative piece, include nonconsensual sexual encounters and exposing himself.

One of Kozelek’s accusers is Sarah Catherine Golden, a Los Angeles mental health specialist, who first met Kozelek on a flight to Portugal in November of 2017 and saw him perform that night. After talking for some time backstage, they went to Kozelek’s hotel room, where she claims he asked her to stay the night after offering to get her a cab back to her Airbnb. Pitchfork reports that Golden went to smoke on the balcony while he took a call in his room, and when he joined her outside, he was wearing just a T-shirt and underwear. After she told him she wasn’t interested, “his whole demeanor just changed”, Golden says.

She claims that Kozelek pushed the beds together and laid down on top of her. “At that point, I was kind of in shock,” Pitchfork reports her saying. “I told him I really needed to get a cab, if he could please just call for it.” After calling her a cab, she claims he started masturbating in front of her, as well as grabbing at her body and trying to kiss her. She also alleges that Kozelek forced him to touch his penis.

Though Golden didn’t report the incident to the police, she did text two friends about it the same day, both of whom confirmed her account to Pitchfork. Later, Kozelek wrote a song about the encounter called ‘Soap For Joyful Hands’, which appeared on his 2018 album This Is My Dinner. In the song, however, Kozelek never mentions anything sexual, claiming that they went their separate ways after having a conversation. “I feel like he totally flipped the script on that whole thing to make it seem like this woman is just some kind of groupie type who was pestering him, because she wants to get into the brain of this genius,” Golden says.

Pitchfork also reports allegations from woman identified under the pseudonym Andrea, who says she met Kozelek in September of 2014 at the Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina – right around the time his Sun Kil Moon album Benji was garnering widespread critical acclaim. At the time, Kozelek was 47 years old, while Andrea was 19. She claims Kozelek gave her his number after a show and invited her to his hotel room after 1 a.m. Afterwards, Kozelek allegedly took a bath with the bathroom door open, then dropped his towel and “pretty much pounced on” her. “I didn’t have the courage to be like, No, that wasn’t okay, and that’s not what I wanted to do,” she said, adding that she texted a friend the next day saying that it “wasn’t really consensual.”

Andrew reportedly continued a long-distance relationship with Kozelek for the next three months, alleging that though some sexual acts were consensual, he often pressured her into others where “the lines [were] really blurred,” including instances of public sex with which she was uncomfortable. “I feel like our sexual relationship, every encounter was him trying to find another thing he could do, and not in a way where he asks for consent or permission,” Andrea said.

A third woman, a female musician who declined to be named, also alleged that Kozelek invited her and another female musician to his hotel room after a show in 2014 and “acted inappropriately,” according to Pitchfork.

Kozelek has showcased controversial and often misogynistic behaviour in the past, particularly towards female journalists. In 2015, he referred to someone as a “spoiled bitch rich kid blogger brat” in his song ‘War on Drugs: Suck My Cock’; Allison Hussey, now a writer for Pitchfork, read the song as referring to herself following a negative review of his performance at Hopscotch 2014. That same year, he called Laura Snapes, now deputy music editor for the Guardian, a “bitch” journalist who “totally wants to fuck me” while onstage.

Biffy Clyro, A Celebration Of Endings

Biffy Clyro are back with their ninth studio album, A Celebration of Endings, via 14th Floor/ Warner. Produced by Rich Costey (Sigur Rós, Muse, Frank Turner), the follow-up to 2016’s Ellipsis  and their 2019 soundtrack album Balance, Not Symmetry was originally scheduled for release back in May but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking about the album, frontman Simon Neil told NME: “I’m normally very personal with what I write, but in this day and age it’s impossible to not be affected by these things that are constantly happening and infiltrating every aspect of all of our lives.” He added: “I always remember saying, ‘I’m never going to write songs about society’ or whatever, but it’s just impossible not to. The songs felt like they were the ones that spoke to me the most.”

Young Jesus, Welcome to Conceptual Beach

Young Jesus have returned with a new album titled Welcome to Conceptual Beach via Saddle Creek. The 7-track LP, which follows 2018’s The Whole Thing Is Just There, was first conceived as a physical zine in 2016, while the four members of the Los Angeles-based indie rock outfit were on tour. It imagines “a long-time mental refuge, where [vocalist/guitarist John Rossiter] imagines himself living—like a medieval, stigmata-wrought hermit—all his needs for okay-ness finally met,” according to a press release. “The reason it’s called Welcome to… [Conceptual Beach] is because I’m inviting other inner landscapes into it,” Rossiter further explains.

Other albums out today:

Whitney, Candid; Bruce Hornsby, Non-Secure Connection; Kathleen Edwards, Total Freedom; Boldy James, The Versace Tape.
