We are back once again. This time with more great music to share with you on our Sound Selection 019.

Sam Valdez ‘It’s Alright’

Latest single by Sam Valdez ‘It’s Alright’ is a mystical, warm and driven song that pushes the norm of today’s music. Valdez’s composure as an artist is truly magnificent, throughout the progression of the song Valdez digs deep with a mature and raw vocal to keep it under her control. While she is very young, she clearly has a lot of potential and talent; one may argue the latter is that of a star. Valdez breezes through with her great single ‘It’s Alright’. A must for any weekend drive playlist.

Natalie Migdal ‘Open Your Eyes’

Another beautifully composed and performed song to enter our Sound Selection is by the magnificent Natalie Migdal, who opens your ears to her latest and wonderful creation ‘Open Your Eyes’. ‘Open Your Eyes’ is a heart-warming and touching song that flourishes with its uplifting guitar and flowing vocals. Migdal pours out her abilities with her terrific songwriting and marks herself as the artist to follow in the world of music.

Des ‘Dying Breed’

Fun, raw and full of energy are few ways of describing ‘Dying Breed’ by Des, who combines sounds of Indie Pop with a wave of electric energy driven by his solid and authentic vocals. The shine of this song is the consistency, and tempo Des manages to keep it at, with significant control over his listener Des derives any space that could be left for doubt and fills it with pure fuel and emotion. It is without a doubt that this song is a real gift for any boundless listener.

Biyo ‘Fantasies’

Magical and mystical. ‘Fantasies’ is a groovy, funky and modern downtempo song that drives on roaring dynamics, minimal percussion and a touch of smooth modernism. Credit has to be given to Biyo for developing an easy-listening song, one that flows into the commercial scene well with its up to date synths and well-thought-out structure. This one will be on repeat for weeks to come.

HTMLflowers ‘Cicada’

Our final song in this Sound Selection is Cicada by the well-spirited, meaningful and rapid HTMLflowers who presents us with his latest highly flowing and wall breaking song ‘Cicada’. In his latest creation, HTMLflowers mixes sounds of modern hip-hop with a tint of nostalgia through its grain-like soundscape that monitors alongside it. Vocally, HTMLflowers delivers his lyrics with a raw sense of emotion and directness, a real ride of honesty from an artist that looks to embellish himself into the world of music.

A film influenced by Edgar Wright, Spaced and Hot Fuzz is looking for backing

Sci-fi comedy short Man-tis! is looking for backers.

Short film ‘Man-tis!’ is now in pre-production and is looking for backers to make the film happen. Man-tis! is a short science-fiction comedy. Drawing influence from such classic creature features as ‘The Fly’ (1958) and mixing it with the comedy of Edgar Wright’s ‘Spaced’ (1999 – 2001) series, Man-tis! tells the story of a young man who wakes up to find his head transformed into that of a giant praying mantis – on the day of a major job interview, no less.

When talking to Our Culture Mag, the director of the film Christopher Stewardson said a few things about the influences that made the idea come together “Kurt Neumann’s 1958 version of The Fly and Joe Dante’s Matinee are really the primary influences of Man-tis! I love how affectionate Matinee is toward 1950s science fiction and horror pictures – it really relishes with how fantastic those films were. With Man-tis! I really want to emulate that sense of affection for the plethora of monster movies from the 50s that I loved as a child – and still do!”

Christopher Stewardson himself has been writing and directing independent short films for over five years, including the comedy A Fine Picture – which has been submitted to several film festivals.

Man-tis! will be released in 2018 and has already been featured on outlets such as Huffington Post, Sound of Now and The Spinning Image.

Single Breasted VS Double Breasted

There are so many designs for coats out now that you may take a double look on it. Some are just like ordinary coats, some single and some double breasted. Some may find this confusing so here is a quick break down.

What is the difference?

Buttons

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD

Single breasted garments have two lapels that slightly overlap each other, just enough to fit one column of buttons.

Double breasted garments have two fronts over lapping each other, this has two columns of buttons.

Lapels

Lapels on single breasted garments are usually notched.

On the other hand lapels on double breasted garments are peaked which means the top of the lapels are pointing upwards.

Styling

You can almost pair any kind of trousers with single breasted garments as you can easily wear this formally or casual.

On the other hand, double breasted garments requires more formal trousers because it has always been associated with formal events and that hasn’t changed unlike the single breasted garments where you can pair with jeans.

Creed inspired film Knockout is looking for funding

Creed inspired short film Knockout looks to become a reality.

With the film in pre-production the director of the film, James Carpenter joined us to talk about his latest upcoming sport themed drama film ‘Knockout’.

Hi, how are you?

I’m pretty good. Glad to be here. Heard many good things about Our Culture Mag.

You do seem familiar. So, you are directing the upcoming short film Knockout. How did the idea for the film come about?

It originated from when I tried to come up with an idea between a relationship with a father and son. A couple ideas came first with a father in the military or so. I wanted to create something pure and innocent but still have enough negative emotion to leave a lasting imprint on the audience.

What influenced the film?

Major influences come from ‘The Fighter’, ‘Creed’, ‘Southpaw’.  All these sports films had more of an emotional side than the actual sports side, so I decided to take that element and put it at the front of the story.

What is the character of John Saunders like?

He’s an honest man. He started off as a tradesman. Didn’t have many aspirations. Straightforward, everyday working-class guy. I feel that makes him much more relatable character than someone who had aimed to be a boxer since day one.

Describe Knockout in three words.

Hard hitting emotion.

When are you planning to release Knockout and how can we follow the film’s progress?

The film should be released in June 2018 if not a bit earlier. You can follow the progress the social media and our Indiegogo. Also, a dedicated YouTube channel will cover the film.

‘Justice League’ struggles to hit $100 million mark as it tops weekend Box Office

Justice League unsurprisingly topped the weekend Box Office but struggled to hit the target of $100 million.

Whilst, it was not the perfect three day weekend for Justice League and Warner Bros. The big superhero film managed to grab a mighty $96 million domestically, whilst it grossed a more impressive $281 million worldwide.

In the second place, came Lionsgate’s ‘Wonder’ which managed to gross a very impressive and unexpected $27 million domestically. Whilst, in third came ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ with a modest $21 million domestically. ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ currently stands in 9th place for highest grossing film of 2017.

Furthermore, Sony’s ‘The Star’ opened with $10 million domestically with a production budget of $20 million.

With a great vibe, lovely structure and some groovy French-like influence this song is a must for any playlist. The New Respects bring a weight of uplifting energy that will keep you buzzed until the end of time. Simply marvellous.

ONR ‘5 Years Time’

Driven by flowingly authentic vocals and great production, ONR elevates us with his energetic and solid sound. ‘5 Years Time’ is a showcase of the splendid talent that ONR possesses as an artist, a gift that many would love to possess.

Overjoy ‘Women’

The final song to enter our Sound Selection is ‘Women’ by the Los Angeles based trio that combine deep and hypnotic soundscapes to emerge their listeners. ‘Women’ is the perfect song for those long night sessions. A fantastic way to end this Sound Selection.

Erika Sanada is a sculptor that creates delicate ceramic sculptures of animals, a series she calls “Odd Things.”

Her work is beautiful yet eerie. The juxtaposition between the cute, innocent, little animals and their creepy expressions and extra body parts work as a dark twist to what would otherwise be a sweet take on the subject and adds a spice of darkness and intrigue to her work.
