Kate Bollinger Shares New Single ‘What’s This About (La La La La)’

Kate Bollinger has shared a new single, ‘What’s This About (La La La La)’, lifted from her upcoming debut album Songs From a Thousand Frames of Mind. It follows previous cuts ‘To Your Own Devices’ and ‘Any Day Now’. Check it out below.

“This was one of those songs that arrived in my head fully formed, kind of like it was delivered to me by someone else, and as its conduit I banged around on guitar trying to find where the chords were,” Bollinger said of ‘What’s This About (La La La La)’ in a press release. “It’s sort of an ode to Of Montreal’s Cherry Peel and Apples in Stereo’s Tone Soul Evolution.”

Songs From a Thousand Frames of Mind arrives September 27 via Ghostly International.

Nap Eyes Announce New Album ‘The Neon Gate’, Unveil New Song

Canadian indie rockers Nap Eyes have announced a new album called The Neon Gate. The follow-up to 2020’s Snapshot of a Beginner is slated to arrive on October 18 through Paradise of Bachelors and Paper Bag Records. It includes the early singles ‘Feline Race Wave’, ‘Ice Grass Underpass’, and ‘Demons’, and a new track, ‘Passageway’, is out today. Check it out below.

Speaking about ‘Passageway’, bandleader Nigel Chapman said: “I had the last verse of this song written for a long time, along with a bunch of earlier verses that I didn’t like as much that I eventually discarded. One quiet day when I was not doing too much of anything, I started to come up with the lyrics of the earlier verses — just in my head without an instrument or speaking them out loud, which is unusual for me. So the song was generated by this out-of-the-ordinary writing method, but I think this resulted in a song that is pretty different from anything else I’ve written to date.”

Hotline TNT Share New Remix EP Featuring DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, and More

Hotline TNT have released the Somersault EP, featuring remixes of tracks from their 2023 album Cartwheel. It includes reworkings by DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Poisonfrog, Downstairs J, and Car Culture. Take a listen below.

“I had no idea what to expect when we sent the stems out to get the Cartwheel tracks remixed, and all five of these visions messed with my head,” project leader Will Anderson said in a statement. “When the artists asked me what BPM the song was at or how much headroom to leave in the mix, I didn’t know how to answer and probably gazed upon them with a one thousand yard stare as I recalled the horrors of my GarageBand project files, leaving them to their own devices to figure it out.”

Haley Heynderickx Releases ‘Seed of a Seed’, First New Song In Six Years

Haley Heynderickx has released her first new song in six years. It’s called ‘Seed of a Seed’, and it features Heynderickx on vocals and acoustic guitar, William Seiji Marsh on tenor guitar, Caleigh Drane on cello and string arrangement, and Matthew Holmes on double bass. Check it out via the Evan Benally Atwood-directed video below.

“I first sent a demo of ‘Seed of a Seed’ to my friend Tré Burt and he loved it,” Heynderickx shared in a statement. “For three years he kept asking me if I’d finished the ‘better better’ song. It felt like a throwaway song to me, at first. It’s so simple, but I didn’t realize how much angst I’d woven into it: a desire for simplicity, and how far away that felt. It seems I accidentally pressed my story — the last four years of my life — into a tiny little tune and I love it now, too.”

Heynderickx’s debut album, I Need to Start a Garden, came out in 2018.

Public Opinion Announce Debut Album, Share New Song ‘Drawn From Memory’

Denver band Public Opinion have announced their debut LP, Painted on Smile, arriving September 6 via Convulse Records. Lead single ‘Drawn From Memory’ arrives with a Derek Rathbun-directed video, which you can check out below.

Painted on Smile was co-produced by Militarie Gun/Regional Justice Center leader Ian Shelton and God’s Hate/Twitching Tongues member Taylor Young. “We really wanted to try and expand the sound of the band more,” vocalist Kevin Hart said in a press release. “That early 2000s stuff like The Strokes, The Hives, and Bloc Party was really important to us when we were kids, and I think this time we let a lot more of that infiltrate into what we were doing, and we ended up stumbling on more of our own sound.”

“I’m really proud of the music, but the lyrics are honestly pretty hard to read along to,” Hart added “It’s me purging a lot of things that I feel negatively about. I think so much of my previous stuff was very ‘f*ck you’ and this is much more of a ‘f*ck me,’ apologetic kind of album.”
