What Is Plastic Beauty About?
Plastic Beauty revolves around Fumi, a surgeon whose career takes an unexpected turn after a controversial operation threatens her professional future. She ends up working at the clinic of Rin, a celebrity cosmetic surgeon known as the “Hand of God.”
The two doctors have different ideas about medicine. Fumi believes surgery should be reserved for genuine medical problems. Rin, meanwhile, thinks emotional suffering and dissatisfaction with one’s appearance can be just as important as physical illness.
As Fumi becomes involved with Rin’s patients, she uncovers the dangerous compromises lurking behind the industry’s glamorous image. At the same time, she begins to see that cosmetic surgery can sometimes restore a person’s quality of life. The show introduces several patients and explores the relationship between Fumi and Rin, which becomes more complicated as the narrative advances.
