What Is The Scandal About?
The Scandal was inspired by the French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because the book also served as the base for ‘80s romantic drama Dangerous Liaisons and beloved ‘90s movie Cruel Intentions.
This time around, the action is set in Joseon-era Korea. The plot follows Lady Cho, a frustrated noblewoman trapped by the rigid expectations placed on women. She has a complicated relationship with her cousin Cho Won, an expert seducer. Bored, Lady Cho proposes a wager involving Hui-yeon, a widow known for her determination to remain faithful to her late husband.
Cho Won accepts the challenge, intending to seduce Hui-yeon and prove that even the most virtuous women can be tempted. What begins as an elaborate ruse, however, escalates when genuine feelings develop. Expect secrets, jealousy, and betrayal. Will Lady Cho and Cho Won lose control of the game? You’ll have to tune in to find out.
While The Scandal season 2 probably won’t happen, the episodes available deliver a satisfying story that doesn’t leave viewers wondering about the characters’ fates. If you’re into Korean content, there’s a good chance you’ll be glued to the screen.
