This Week’s Best New Songs: Father John Misty, Florist, Joyce Manor, and More

Throughout the week, we update our Best New Songs playlist with the new releases that caught our attention the most, be it a single leading up to the release of an album or a newly unveiled deep cut. And each Monday, we round up the best new songs released over the past week (the eligibility period begins on Monday and ends Sunday night) in this best new music segment.

On this week’s list, we have the ambitious, unexpectedly chaotic, and hauntingly beautiful closer from Father John Misty’s Chloë and the Next 20th Century; Horsegirl’s ‘World of Pots and Pans’, the “closest thing” the band has written to a love song, in which that undefined emotion subtly intensifies; Joyce Manor’s nostalgic and undeniably catchy ‘Gotta Let It Go’; ‘Alma’, a wonderful tribute to motherhood from Melody’s Echo Chamber’s forthcoming album; ‘Red Bird Pt. 2’, the gentle and contemplative lead single from Florist’s upcoming self-titled LP; Empress Of’s lush, seductive new track ‘Save Me’; and ‘Synesthesia’, a mesmerizing track off Deer Scout’s debut album Woodpecker.

The Saints’ Chris Bailey Has Died

Chris Bailey, the leader of the seminal Australian punk band The Saints, has died. The news was revealed in a statement on the band’s Facebook page on Monday. “It is with great pain in our hearts that we have to inform you about the passing of Chris Bailey, singer and songwriter of The Saints, on April the 9th 2022,” the statement reads. “Chris lived a life of poetry and music and stranded on a Saturday night.”

Bailey grew up in Belfast until his parents emigrated to Brisbane, Australia when he was seven. He formed a band with his schoolmates Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay in the early 1970s, changing their name to the Saints in 1974. They released their debut album, the pioneering (I’m) Stranded, in 1977, which was quickly followed by 1978’s Prehistoric Sounds and Eternally Yours.

Bailey was the Saints’ only consistent member throughout the band’s five-decade run. He released a total of 14 LPs as the Saints, with their most recent album, King of the Sun, landing in 2012. Bailey also issued a number of solo albums under his own name in the ’80s and ’90s. “On a musical level, I think the Saints are just a part of the greater evolution of something I care very deeply about, which is rock’n’roll music,” he said in a 2004 interview. “That’s gratification enough, really.”

Jack White Proposed to and Married Olivia Jean During Detroit Concert

Jack White proposed to and then married his girlfriend, Black Belles singer-songwriter Olivia Jean, during his performance at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit on April 8. When Jean joined White for a rendition of the White Stripes’ ‘Hotel Yorba’, White paused at the “let’s get married” lyric and said: “I’ve got a question for you. Will you marry me?” White and Jean got married during the show’s encore, with Third Man co-founder Ben Swank officiating the ceremony.

According to the Detroit Free Press, White and Jean’s respective bass players were best man and maid of honor, and their families were in attendance, including White’s mother, Teresa Gillis. This marks White’s third wedding; his first wife was his former bandmate in White Stripes, Meg White. He divorced his second wife, model and singer Karen Elson, in 2013.

Jack White released his most recent album, Fear of the Dawn, on Friday.

How to Choose the Perfect Engagement Ring

Getting engaged is a milestone moment in everyone’s life and represents the start of an exciting new chapter. But, one thing many people struggle with when it comes to a marriage proposal is choosing the right ring. Selecting the best engagement ring can feel like a lot of pressure; after all, this is a piece of jewelry your other half will wear for the rest of their life. So, selecting the right ring is vital, but it is not always an easy task. Shopping for a ring among the thousands of different styles and designs available can be an overwhelming process. If you are having trouble finding the perfect engagement ring for your wife-to-be, you should find that these tips help:

Look for Clues

If the two of you shop together regularly, then chances are you already have plenty of clues to help you choose the perfect engagement ring in Brisbane. Think back to times you have browsed in jewelry stores and the types of rings that she has pointed out as they have captured her attention.

Understand Her Style

While an engagement ring is a stand-out piece of jewelry that commands attention, it is unlikely to be the only jewelry your fiancee-to-be will be wearing. So, when choosing the perfect engagement ring, it is helpful to consider any other rings and jewelry that she regularly wears. Points to think about include the color of precious metal that she wears and the style of jewelry that she favors. Observing her current style will give you an insight into her preferred aesthetic and make it easier for you to choose an engagement ring she will love. For a sophisticated and timeless option, consider browsing the selection offered by Orla James, a reputable brand known for its high-quality and unique designs.

Design Your Own Engagement Ring

If you want to wow your fiancee and show just how much you care, you may want to take your engagement ring shopping to the next level. Creating a bespoke engagement ring is an excellent way to make it extra special and ensure your partner has a truly unique engagement ring. Looking for loose diamonds on sale will enable you to select the perfect stone for the ring and allows you to handpick the diamond of your choice. When choosing your diamond, you will need to consider the setting you are planning to use and how the stone you have selected will work with this. Visualizing the finished ring should help make choosing the perfect diamond a little easier.

Think About Size

The size of the ring is a crucial consideration and one you will need to consider before you start shopping. Firstly you will need to know your partner’s ring size so you can ensure that the engagement ring will fit. Secondly, you will need to consider the proportions of the ring. If your other half prefers discreet, understated styles of jewelry, it is worth keeping this in mind with your choice of engagement ring. Doing this will help you avoid buying a ring that looks out of proportion with the size of her hand and the rest of her jewelry.

6 Ways To Look Fashionable Without Spending Too Much

Achieving a better fashion sense can be a challenging goal for many people. You’re not alone if it’s something you want to do and work toward. The best part is that you don’t always have to invest a lot of money to boost your style. You can improve your appearance and look more fashionable with the right approach and determination.

Are you ready to make a change and love the way you look? Then take time to learn six ways to look fashionable without spending too much. You shouldn’t let having a budget stop you from feeling and looking great. With this advice you also can become more fashionable without spending a lot of money.

1. Go through Your Closet

One way to look fashionable without spending too much is to go through your closet. If you haven’t done so in some time then this may be a very eye-opening experience for you. Take time to determine what clothes no longer fit or are outdated and then donate clothing that’s in good shape but you don’t want. Focus on making room for the pieces that are stylish and look good on you. It is possible that there’s even clothing in your closet with the tags still on it and that you’ve never worn previously. Going shopping from your closet and getting it better organised is a great first step in the right direction as you strive to be more fashionable.

2. Find Coupons Online

Another way to look fashionable without spending too much is to shop online. Not only hop online to see what’s out there but also find and use coupons on sites such as NetVoucherCodes. They have men’s and women’s fashion categories and plenty of deals to go around. Shopping online can not only be fun and convenient but now it can also be affordable. Use online resources such as this to find the coupons you want and need so you can save money and still improve your wardrobe and look stylish.

3. Borrow from Friends

If you have fashionable and trendy friends then you may want to consider reaching out to them. They’ll not only be able to provide you with advice for improving your fashion sense but may also let you borrow some of their clothing. Look fashionable without spending too much by borrowing items from people you hang out with. They may not mind if you’re good about returning the clothing when you’re done with it and there may even be stuff in your closet they might want to try on and wear too.

4. Shop Vintage Looks at Consignment Stores

Head out and try shopping for vintage looks at consignment stores if you want to save money and look fashionable. Scoping out pre-owned fashion is an excellent way to update your wardrobe without having to hand over a lot of cash. There may even be luxury items and gems if you look hard enough that you can get at a great price just by being proactive and taking the time to go through all the racks of clothes. You’ll feel better knowing you got trendy pieces at a discounted price because trends tend to come and go anyway.

5. Wear Accessories

Add accessories to your outfits for a fresh and attractive look. Be more fashionable when you leave the house by adding a belt, statement necklace, and the right pair of shoes to what you’re wearing. Look fashionable without spending too much by stocking up on accessories that embellish your outfits and add a pop of colour and interest to your overall attire. There are many fun and exciting accessories to choose from so start by gathering the ones you know you’ll wear and that you find the most appealing.

6. Invest in the Staples & Layer

It may also be helpful to opt for the classics when you’re trying to be more fashionable on a budget. Don’t be afraid to save up a little bit of money and spend it on the staple pieces. These are items that are classic and you’ll wear them for a long time. They’re not likely to go out of style and you’ll get your money’s worth in the end. Investing in the wardrobe basics also allows you the opportunity to mix and match and layer your clothing items for fresh looks without having to go shopping. If you do want to splurge once in a while then invest in classic luxury pieces that you’ll have for a lifetime and you’ll get some use out of.

“This is probably one of my favorite songs I have ever made,” Lorely Rodriguez said of ‘Save Me’ in a statement. “I’ve never put live strings on a recording before, it was very emotional. There’s a sexual urgency. There’s a power play. I think it’s one of the sexiest songs I’ve made.”

Hey, ily! Release New Song ‘Stress Headache’

Billings, Montana band Hey, ily! have shared a new track from their forthcoming debut LP Psychokinetic Love Songs. This one’s called ‘Stress Headache’, and it follows lead single ‘Intrusive Thoughts Always’. Check it out below.

“We really wanted to embody the whole ’80s glam-rock feel, so we threw in high falsettos and crunchy guitar solos,” the band’s Caleb Haynes explained in a statement (via FLOOD). “I was super inspired by The Darkness and Ninja Sex Party, throwback bands like that. It’s the only song that wasn’t written specifically for this album, but I think it’s a nice change of pace from all the chaotic digital progressiveness going on throughout!”

Psychokinetic Love Songs, the follow-up to last year’s Internet Breath EP, is set to arrive on April 29 via Lonely Ghost. Read our Artist Spotlight interview with Hey,ily!.

Emma Ruth Rundle Announces New Album ‘EG2: Dowsing Voice’, Shares New Song

Emma Ruth Rundle has announced a new album called EG2: Dowsing Voice. Set for release on May 13 via Sargent House, it serves as the sequel to her 2011 instrumental LP Electric Guitar One and will be available to stream and download exclusively through Bandcamp and on vinyl otherwise. Listen to the new track ‘Imbolc Dawn Atop Ynys Wydryn. Ice Melts As the First Resplendent Rays of Spring Pour Over the Horizon’ below, and scroll down to find the album cover and full tracklist.

EG2: Dowsing Voice is a collection of improvised music, with an emphasis on vocals, “by way of intuiting unseen beings and goddess forms underground, and in the water, and in the waves and the wind, and rain, and welling up from the wells… all in Wales – where I was in the winter Jan/Feb 2020,” Rundle explained.

She added: “This is my weird art project. It’s different, and not for everyone. There aren’t traditional songs really… and it’s not quite the same as EG1. there’s more vocalizing- (singing but without ‘lyrics’ – throat singing – screaming – made up language). It’s still a sequel though – I believe the heart of the series lies in the improvisational nature of the music… I’ll be sharing more about the artwork here in coming weeks.”

Emma Ruth Rundle released her latest album, Engine of Hell, last year. More recently, she shared the Orpheus Looking Back EP, featuring unreleased tracks from the album’s sessions.
