Soundcloud has shut down London and San Francisco offices

0

Music streaming service Soundcloud has shut down two offices due to financial concerns.

The very popular streaming Soundcloud seems to be going downhill as they have closed two of their offices in London and San Francisco. The two offices were shut down immediately which means a total of 40% of the workforce behind SoundCloud have been let go.

Soundcloud as a service was founded in 2007 and is currently based in Berlin, Germany. The website has an Alexa rank of 109 which makes it one of the most popular music websites on the internet. Over the years Soundcloud has received a lot of investment from different sources but as competition grew they struggled to monetise. SoundCloud has attempted to boost its cash flow by making a subscription service last April however, it does not seem to have worked as competitors like Spotify, Tidal and Deezer seemed to of overshadowed the German based streaming service with either offering a cheaper alternative or using exclusive releases like Jay-Z’s album ‘404’ to raise the number of users.

DJ Mag Top 100 voting is underway but criticism is still in the shadows

0

Arguably the biggest DJ magazine in the world DJ MAG has run an annual Top 100 DJ list since 1993.

Since every year it has run the top 100 list has grown with many few faces coming in and out, over the years has gained quite a status in the world of electronic dance music. However, over the years any DJ’s and music producers have noticed some problems with the list as it grew in popularity.

Firstly, one of the lesser talked issues is that female DJ’s seem to be hugely under-represented on the list. Some years only one or two faces show up out of a hundred, which is quite a tiny percent knowing there are lots of great female DJ’s that are shaping the dance music world such as Annie Mac, Nina Kraviz, B.Traits and many more.

The other issue that seems to of caught more attention is the unfair voting system. Many DJ’s and producers have voiced their opinions saying that the voting system simply does not work, as it comes down to the popularity rather than the quality of the DJ. Adding to this problem is that many of the DJ’s are more respected as producers rather than DJ’s. The list seems to of shifted from actual DJ’s to music producers, which makes the world of dance music wonder if the name of the list should be changed to Top 100 music producers & DJ’s.

But really the main big popular faces of the electronic dance music world still seem to take this list seriously. Running full social media campaigns throughout the contest, trying to reach the top. So, as it seems, DJ Mag is not looking to change their system in a major way anytime soon, which is a shame to some as they feel it has bigger potential.

0

The mysterious music producer Aphex Twin performed at the Field Day 2017 festival in June.

With the success of the event, the Aphex Twin was back once again with his loyal fans supporting the original movement of his music.

At the event, Aphex Twin sold limited edition vinyl which now sells from around £200 on eBay, by those that feel profit goes over music. It has surfaced around the web that a new 12″ vinyl is also being sold at Todd Osborn‘s Technical Equipment Supply, which also includes two tracks he put out in the massive Soundcloud dump back in 2015.

But it is not over for those that want the vinyl as the official Aphex Twin website featured a countdown which looked to end on the 6th of July, which is today. However, it seems to have added on time rather than finalised it. Nothing has been posted on social media from Warp records or Aphex Twin as of yet. Keeping his fans intrigued and on their toes as always.

Sylvester Stallone hints about Creed 2

After the success of Creed, the film Rocky franchise looks to continue as Sylvester Stallone throws a hint to fans via social media.

Sylvester Stallone widely known for his role as Rocky has given a hint via social media about what the people should expect from Creed 2. Posting a picture of Rocky IV’s character Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) versus Creed/Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) . He also captioned the image saying “Here’s a chance to stretch your imagination … HISTORY WILL ALWAYS REPEAT ITSELF IN ONE FORM OR ANOTHER, JUST GOT TO BE READY! … Sins of the Father….

The hint has caught many interpretations. One that Drago will be back to fight Creed and Creed will try to revenge his father’s death. At the moment the plot info is not fully clear.

The film is due to be released in 2018 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. It will likely feature Stallone as Rocky which is putting a question if it will be the last film we will see him due to the characters age. However, knowing how Rocky films go this might not be the case.

Key themes for Menswear S/S 18

Every season there are always interesting key themes to which designers take into account. Different places have different themes. The following are for themes in the UK.

Future Sport

We see the obvious sportswear in the designs, but rather than serving it’s purpose for sportswear it has taken a to a more avant-garde look. It almost differs from what you think sports wear fabrics should be because you see all sorts of fabrics.

Office Core

This is taking tailored looks to a whole different level. When we seen suits we instantly think of smart, well dressed and even clean looking. Whilst others can get intimidated by it. This is almost a more casual take on suits. There isn’t one bit of rule that you can abide by because it’s so casual.

New wave

This theme is close enough to office core but not quite. It’s a more avant-garde look. It almost brings back the look from the 1940s and 1980s. The whole look is quite boxy, with oversized everything almost.

Manipulated Sizes

Speaking of oversized this is a very interesting theme. It creates very playful looks. It plays around with sizes on the same garment. So an example of this is in Boris Bidjan Saberi’s collection the image below shows the front of the jacket to be smaller than the back.
