‘Dunkirk’ has made back its production budget three times over

0

Nolan’s beloved ‘Dunkirk’ has cashed in over $300 million with a production budget of $100 million.

After netting $50 million at the opening weekend, the gripping action film by Christopher Nolan looked on its way to surpass its production budget of $100 million. With less than a month since it has been released in the cinemas worldwide, the film has netted over $330 million according to Box Office Mojo.

Dunkirk will likely reach the Top 50 highest grossing films distributed by Warner Bros by the end of its cinematic release. At this moment of time, the 50th place is taken by’ San Andreas’ which grossed a total of $473 million worldwide. On the other hand, the list is still topped by Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ which grossed a total of $1.004 Billion. However, ‘Dunkirk’ is unlikely to reach the top spot, as ‘The Dark Knight’ made three times the amount ‘Dunkirk’ did on its opening weekend with a whopping $154 million.

0

When you are out and about you will often see guys wearing one of these outfits. It’s a timeless look that you will often see during the summer. So if you haven’t already try out one of these outfits and see which suits your taste.

Smart Casual

This may seem like a smart outfit but it’s less formal. This outfit would be great with a dark brown belt. There is a variety of looks you can create with this whether you change colour or pattern of the shirt or trousers.  If you wanted to you can change the shoes from loafers, italian shoes for men to brogues. If the weather is rather chilly you might want to wear a jumper or cardigan with this look.

Casual

This outfit is great to use for the hotter days or if you’re going to the beach. To top of this outfit you may add on a Fedora hat to look more stylish but to also help protect your head from burning. If you would like to wear this outfit to the beach then an alternative would be espadrilles and bring along a jumper or cardigan for when it gets colder.

Smart

For more formal occasions like going on a date or social events this is a great outfit to wear. You can mix and match patterns and colours but make sure they aren’t clashing with each other. To make more of a statement add some accessories like a watch or a pocket square and even some sunglasses. If you’re going to travel then why don’t you bring along a leather holdall bag.

Dustin Hoffman is still going strong at 80

0

Legendary actor Dustin Hoffman known for his Academy Award winning roles in films such as Rain Man (1988) and Kramer vs Kramer (1979) turned 80 on Tuesday.

As just two days ago the actor turned 80, we have collected a small selection of scenes he absolutely mastered with a wide range of talent he possesses as an actor.

Throughout, his career Dustin Hoffman is known for his eclectic choice of roles in films such as Tootsie (1982), Rain Man (1998) and even Kung Fu Panda (2008) where he voiced the Red panda character ‘Shifu’.

His latest role was in Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories (2017). The film gained big attention at the Cannes Film Festival and gained critical acclaim as it reached 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Here are some great scenes that defined the career of this great actor.

Will Ivan Drago actually fight Rocky Balboa or Creed in Creed 2?

After many hints from Sylvester Stallone, it is yet to be fully confirmed if Ivan Drago will be fighting Rocky Balboa or Creed in Creed 2.

The hints started via Instagram by Sylvester Stallone who plays the character of Rocky Balboa in the long running franchise. Stallone posted a picture on the 3rd of July captioning it “Here’s a chance to stretch your imagination … HISTORY WILL ALWAYS REPEAT ITSELF IN ONE FORM OR ANOTHER, JUST GOT TO BE READY! … Sins of the Father…. #creed2 # agentnickyc #rockybalboa”

After many further hints like this, it looks like Ivan Drago will surely be back but unknown in which way as of course he will be much older. Could the franchise put another old fighter in the ring? Last time Rocky fought was in Rocky Balboa (2006) as an old retired restaurant owner, losing the match but winning the fans.

In a short paparazzi Q&A, Stallone jokingly said

It wouldn’t be a party without Drago would it? I’m gonna punch him. You know I gotta hit Drago once“.

Now, the more reasonable storyline would be a fight between Adonis Johnson and Ivan Drago’s son. This story seems to be more realistic as Rocky and Ivan Drago would be too old but also because it would become a story of vengeance, as Ivan Drago killed Adonis Johnson’s father Apollo Creed when they first fought in an exhibition match. Of course, originally Rocky did revenge the death of his close friend, but a family war would bring back the tension between the ex-Soviet and the All-American hero.

The question to answer is will the film re-create the political commentary or will it develop on the theme of the American Dream and create some sort of unity between the two nations rather than divide them once again?

Review: The Big Sick (2017)

A fresh and heartfelt romantic comedy that makes you question if you should cry or laugh. This film makes you do both.

Kumail Nanjiani plays… Kumail a struggling stand-up comedian and an Uber driver living in the city of Chicago. He comes from a strict Pakistani Muslim family who are constantly trying to set him up with various Pakistani women every week in the hope of organising an arranged marriage. Kumail never goes out with these girls, however he keeps pictures of them in his cigar box. After being heckled by Emily (Zoe Kazan) one night, they hook up and begin to date. This puts Kumail in a tricky position; he worries if he should tell his parents (Zenobia Shroff and Anupam Kher) who would most likely dismiss him for it, after Emily finds the pictures of the girls, Kumail admits to not telling his parents about her, this leads to Emily freaking out and walking out on him. A Few weeks later Kumail gets a phone call about Emily, this unfortunate incident leads to Kumail questioning his ways, regrets and family.

Based on real life events in Kumail Nanjiani’s life the story is one of heartbreak, sadness, hilarity and enjoyment. Kumail expertly shows the struggle that he has to go through to keep his family happy as well as himself, having to pretend to pray and hiding his love life. He doesn’t have the heart to tell them the truth to his mother and father, only his brother, Naveed (Adeel Akhtar) who is a little more on the understanding side even though he has gone through an arranged marriage himself and tries to persuade Kumail to do the same.

As he has been brought up in America he has adapted to different ways than his family, having American friends (Bo Burnham and Aidy Bryant) and meeting American girls the majority of his life is doing the same things they do, that’s not to say he can follow in the same footsteps as his family but rather he doesn’t want to, his situation allows him to make that choice but he refuses to face the consequences, nevertheless the consequences happen and Kumail is left to deal with them, however he has no one who understands his position, they are either on one side or the other, leaving Kumail to make serious decisions.

The cast do a fantastic job in playing their characters, Kumail appears to be just an everyday guy, doing what he loves in stand up comedy, Zoe Kazan as Emily is a fun loving chirpy girl who lives life to the fullest, the two performances complement each other superbly. Her parents (Ray Romano and Holly Hunter) bounce of each other really well, Ray Romano plays the nervous and quiet father while Holly Hunter plays the confident and stern mother, as the film progresses we see the relationship develop between Kumail and Emily’s parents from anger to love, the shock and misery of the situation they are in throws in some hilarious but inappropriate jokes and seriously touching scenes that make you cry with laughter.

A small criticism I have is that the film could have spent more time on the first act building the relationship between Kumail and Emily even further. This would have made the second and third act just that little bit more convincing.

Overall, the film touches on the issues of family, religion and love. Kumails battles, values and choices are all told wonderfully mixed in with the brilliant humour and heartfelt scenes The Big Sick is sure to be a contender for one of the best films of the year so far.
