Hovvdy Announce New EP ‘billboard for my feelings’, Unveil Video for New Song

Hovvdy have announced a new EP, billboard for my feelings, which is comprised of songs that were written primarily during the sessions for the Texas duo’s 2021 LP True Love. It’s out May 27 via Grand Jury. The project includes the previously released singles ‘Everything’ and ‘Town’, as well as a new track called ‘Hide’, which the band called “a lighthearted song about learning when to let your thoughts run wild and when to batten them up.” Check out a Boone Patrello-directed video for it below.

The billboard for my feelings EP was co-produced with Andrew Sarlo. “I allowed myself to focus more on how everything feels, and a little less about telling a complex story,” Charlie Martin said of the EP in a statement. “Both are super valuable – how a melody or texture makes you feel, versus how a super-emotional piece of songwriting impacts you.”

Will Taylor added: “We got to have more fun; we got to cut back. I’m realizing there are many forms Hovvdy can return to, and this EP is a different form.”

Cola Release New Single ‘Degree’

Cola, the new project from former Ought members Tim Darcy and Ben Stidworthy and US Girls/The Weather Station drummer Evan Cartwright, have released their latest single. ‘Degree’ is set to appear on the forthcoming album Deep in View alongside previous entries ‘Blank Curtain’, ‘So Excited’, and ‘Water Table’. Check it out below.

“The character in ‘Degree’ is cycling in and out of these dreamscape states (movie theater, meditation, etc) and then trying to catch up to something in their day to day life,” Farcy explained in a press release. “I picture what it feels like running to catch the bus when you’re in a daze and suddenly have to sprint.”

“‘Degree’ is based on a 2-step kinda track I produced while trying to do the fabled and well-trodden path of using guitars in electronic music,” Stidworthy commented. “I came up with this psych-drenched outro that I really enjoyed so I decided to base a song around that chord progression.”

“I wanted the beat to feel like the opening and closing of a mechanical valve,” Cartwright added. “The guitar riff supplies this relentless propulsion and I thought that the drums should act as a stiff regulator: aggressively blocking, then releasing the heavy flow that comes pouring out of the guitar.”

Deep In View is due out May 20 via Fire Talk Records.

Drive-By Truckers Share New Song ‘Every Single Storied Flameout’

Drive-By Truckers have unveiled ‘Every Single Storied Flameout’, the latest single from their new album Welcome 2 Club XIII. The band previously shared the LP’s title track. Check out the new track below.

“I wrote that song when my son was turning 16 and going through a rough patch for a bit,” the band’s Mike Cooley explained in a statement. “Luckily, he’s turned it around and he’s doing great now, but it was a tough time for a while. Part of my way of dealing with it was to take ownership of the example I might’ve set, in the hope of leading him out of it.”

Welcome 2 Club XIII will be out on June 3 via ATO Records.

Porridge Radio Share Video for New Song ‘End of Last Year’

Porridge Radio have released a new song called ‘End of Last Year’, lifted from their upcoming album Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder to the Sky. The track, which follows previous singles ‘Back to the Radio’ and ‘The Rip’, arrives with an accompanying video. Check it out below, along with Porridge Radio’s upcoming tour dates.

“‘End of Last Year’ is a love song for my bandmates and for myself. It’s about not trusting my intuition, not trusting my body to heal itself, not trusting the people closest to me, but it is also an ode to all those people, and to difficult platonic love,” Dana Margolin explained in a statement. “It came out of a particularly painful period of communication breakdown and high pressure that hurt a lot, but ended in reconciliation and understanding.”

She added: “The video is by my friend Maura Sappilo. I’ve been a fan of her work for a long time, and I wanted her to make the video for this song because whilst her work is playful and bright, she knows how to bring the dirty and painful and disgusting aspects of being a person and having relationships into her paintings. Her art is lyrical and sensual and painful and beautiful, and I love how she brought all that to this song.”

Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder to the Sky is set to arrive on May 20 via Secretly Canadian.
