Foo Fighters have shared a new song called ‘No Son of Mine’. It’s the second single from their upcoming album Medicine at Midnight. Check it out below, along with a handwritten note from the band.

“This is the kind of song that just resides in all of us and if it makes sense at the time, we let it out,” Dave Grohl said in a statement. “Lyrically it’s meant to poke at the hypocrisy of self righteous leaders, people that are guilty of committing the crimes they’re supposedly against…”

Medicine at Midnight, the follow-up to 2017’s Concrete and Gold, is set for release on February 5. It includes the previously released single ‘Shame Shame’, which the band debuted on Saturday Night Live in November. During Hanukkah, Grohl and the album’s producer Greg Kurstin performed a series of covers that included Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’, Peaches’ ‘Fuck the Pain Away’, and The Knack’s ‘Frustrated’.

MF DOOM Dead at 49

0

MF DOOM, the legendary rapper and producer known for his intricate wordplay and signature mask, has passed away at the age of 49. The rapper died on October 31, according to his wife Jasmine Dumile, who first announced the news on his Instagram page. A cause of death has not been revealed.

“The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for,” the statement reads. “Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off. Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be.”

MF DOOM, whose real name was Daniel Dumile, was born in London in 1971 and grew up on Long Island, New York. The son of a Trinidadian mother and a Zimbabwean father, Dumile started rapping in the late 1980s under the moniker Zev Love X in the group KMD, which he formed with his younger brother DJ Subroc. The hip-hop group, whose lineup was rounded out by Onyx the Birthstone Kid, released their critically acclaimed album Mr. Hood in 1991, but disbanded two years later, while they were recording its follow-up Black Bastards, after Subroc was struck and killed by a car.

Following his brother’s death, Dumile relocated to Atlanta and took a step back from the public eye, only to re-emerge in the late 1990s as MF DOOM, donning what would become his signature mask inspired by Marvel supervillain Doctor Doom. “They call me ‘DOOM’ too [because of my last name Dumile],” he said in a 2003 interview. “I could always relate to that character. I liked him; he was ill. He’d always come through [after] he disappeared. It seemed like they killed him, but he always comes back.” His self-produced debut Operation: Doomsday came out in April 1999, kicking off a series of widely influential releases under a range of different aliases, including King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn.

Explaining why he never recorded a project under the name Daniel Dumile, he said in an interview with Passionweiss: “Hip-hop is so saturated with the same old same old that people always expect the guy to actually be the guy. They want you to be real and straight from the streets and all that. I make hip-hop, but use DOOM as a character to convey stories that a normal dude can’t. You have writers that write about crazy characters but that doesn’t mean the writer himself is crazy.”

MF DOOM issued his second album, the ambitious concept record MM…FOOD, in 2004, but it was his collaboration with the equally enigmatic producer Madlib that same year that remains his most iconic and celebrated release. Blending DOOM’s brilliantly rhyme-dense lyrics and Madlib’s eclectic production, Madvillainy not only brought DOOM wider notoriety as an artist, but also became a landmark release in underground hip-hop. A frequent collaborator, DOOM also teamed up with Danger Mouse the following year to form Danger Doom, releasing an album called The Mouse and the Mask. From 2001 to 2005, the prolific rapper also put out a number of releases under his instrumental beat series Special Herbs.

DOOM’s output slowed considerably in the latter half of the 2000s. He released his final proper studio album Born Like This in 2009, but continued making sporadic guest appearances on tracks from artists including Flying Lotus and The Avalanches, as well as contributing to collaborative projects such as 2014’s NehruvianDOOM with Bishop Nehru and 2018’s Czarface Meets Metal Face. Just a few weeks ago, he was featured on BADBADNOTGOOD’s new song ‘The Chocolate Conquistadors’.

“Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you,” Jasmine Dumile’s statement continues. “Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet.”

Upon hearing the shocking news of DOOM’s death, many musicians and artists took to social media to offer their tributes and remembrances. Find tributes from Tyler, the Creator, Questlove, Jay Electronica, El-P, Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats, Danny Brown, Ty Dolla $ign, and many more below.

6 Types of Ancient Greek Vases – Styles & Facts

If you are wondering what you can do to find classical art that is both beautiful, stylish, and cultured, then take a look at some of the pottery from Museum Replicas! At Museum Replicas, our goal is to provide you with exceptional artwork that has been made using the same materials and methods as they did during ancient times. Of course, before you decide what replicas to choose, you need to know how they were used.

4 Main Categories

Greek vases evolved over a prolonged period of time. As the craftsmanship of these vessels improved, so did their styles. In general, it is possible to divide these vessels into four different categories. They include:

  • Transport and Storage Vessels: These vessels were mainly used to move liquid from place to place in a safe, secure manner. A few of the most common examples of these vessels include the pyxis, the amphora, the pelike, the hydria, and the pithos.
  • Oil, Cosmetic, and Perfume Storage Vases: These vases were mainly used in an aesthetic manner. A few of the common examples include the smaller vessels (which are the alabastron and the aryballos) and the larger examples (such as the lekythos).
  • Vessels Used for Mixing Purposes: These vessels were mainly used to mix water and wine together in an effort to dilute the liquid before consuming it. These were commonly used at drinking parties and include options such as the krater and the dinos.
  • Cups and Jugs: Used to drink from directly, the defining vessel of this category is the kylix. A few of the most common examples include the phiale, the skyphos, the kantharos, the oinochoe, and the loutrophoros.

This is only one way to divide Greek pottery; however, it is the most straightforward. Because there are so many types of vessels in these categories, it is important to take a closer look at a few examples.

6 Greek Pottery Types and Facts About Each

When it comes to Greek pottery, it can be divided into countless ways. It is helpful to take a look at a few examples of Greek pottery and learn a little bit about each option. Some of the most popular Greek vase replicas that we provide include:

  1. The Amphora: This is one of the most common types of Greek pottery. There are countless amphoras that have been uncovered all over the world, allowing us to study what makes each amphora unique. This vessel is meant to be carried on either side. Each amphora has two vertical handles. They were used mainly to store and transport liquids, such as wine and water. In some cases, they were also used to store solids, such as grain or olives. They have a deep base that narrows at the neck. In some cases, they also came with lids.
  2. The Krater: This is another very common type of vessel that was used in Greek culture. This is one of the most popular mixing vessels. This is a large container that has a wide foot that helps keep it upright. This container was commonly used at parties, where wine was mixed with water to dilute it slightly before it was served. Many kraters are adorned with intricate ornamentation of various feats of human accomplishment. They were also used as grave markers in some situations.
  3. The Kylix: The kylix is one of the smallest examples of Greek pottery. This is a cup from which people drank directly. Many kylices were based on designs that were found in Asia. Over time, they improved on the design to make it more suitable for their purposes. They also added a base to the vessel, making it easier to balance, along with handles, making it easier to hold. A lot of kylices had images on the bottom. Then, when the drinker drained the vessel, they would lift it up and show everyone else what was on the bottom of the cup.
  4. Plates: In addition to the categories above, Greek culture was also heavily focused on plates. These plates came in all shapes and sizes and usually had exceptional ornamentation on them. Wide enough and heavy enough to stand up to routine wear and tear, many of the images on the plates were of people or animals. In some situations, the scenes would be incredibly detailed, showing impressive feats of Greek history and culture on them.
  5. The Loutrophoros: This is one of the most recognizable examples of Greek culture. The loutrophoros is a wide, narrow vessel that was commonly used to carry water and other liquids from place to place. The base is wide and there is a foot at the bottom, allowing the tall vessel to remain upright. In addition, the neck was exceptionally long which ended with a wide mouth at the top. There are handles on the sides of these vessels to make them easier to carry.
  6. The Chous: The main purpose of the chous is to take wine from the krater and pour it into a drinking vessel. While the krater was mainly used to serve wine, the chous would be used to take wine from the krater and pour it into individual drinking cups. These were common sights at large festivals where there were lots of people in attendance. These vessels also had a lot of impressive scenes depicted on them.

Over the years, we have worked hard to expand the array of options that we provide when it comes to Greek pottery. That means that we are able to provide you with more options as well.

How Fast Payouts Are Making Online Gaming More Fun

Playing online slots or casino games is fun, but we all do it in hopes to land a big win. Winning is the biggest thrill in gambling, and so when we do get lucky, we want to get our hands on our money. The issue with online casinos for so long has been that they are slow to pay out, and it is enough to avoid it altogether.

The good news is that new technology and increasing competition within online gaming means that payouts are getting faster. In fact, a new breed of fast payout casinos are able to get funds back to players within a matter of hours. This is making it better than ever before to play your favourite slots online. We’re going to tell you a little more about which payment methods are best for speedy withdrawals, so keep reading.

E-Wallets and Instant Withdrawals

Thanks to the likes of PayPal, E-wallets have quickly taken over internet payment solutions. Most of us now use some form of E-wallet to make payments, whether that be buying clothes, or even ordering a takeaway. Following in PayPal footsteps, many other E-wallets have since launched, giving us more options than ever before.

Neteller and Skrill are the two most frequently used on gambling sites. The reason for this? Well, both of these methods guarantee cash back in your account within 24 hours. Forget lengthy waiting times and slow payment processing, by opting to use these online wallets, you can be enjoying your winnings in no time. PayPal can also be used for online gambling, and comes with similar benefits.

How Much, or Little, Can You Actually Withdraw?

Every online casino will have some form of minimum deposit requirement. Usually this means that you cannot withdraw unless you have a balance of say, £10 or more. So unfortunately, you will need to meet this before you can take any money away.

We are optimists, and so think it’s important to also consider maximum withdrawals. You just never know… there are plenty of jackpots to be won, and you’ve gotta be in it to win it, right? So, the maximum withdrawal will differ by casino, but it’s usually around £1 million. In other words, don’t worry about landing a couple of thousand, you will be able to withdraw without any issues, and get it fast.

What’s Next For Online Gaming?

With the recent addition of more payment methods and new powerful technology, we believe that instant payouts are going to be the next big thing. This would mean that you can have your money in seconds after winning.

From a gameplay perspective, virtual reality slots and live table games are all of the rage right now. Online gaming no longer feels online, as you’re able to bring the casino right to your phone or computer without leaving the house. There’s a lot of great stuff on the horizon for the online gaming world, and we’re excited to see what comes next.

The Besnard Lakes Share Video for New Song ‘Feuds with Guns’

0

Canadian indie rock outfit The Besnard Lakes have previewed their upcoming album The Besnard Lakes Are The Last of the Great Thunderstorm Warnings with a new song called ‘Feuds with Guns’. It’s accompanied by a rotoscoped animated video directed by Jordan “Dr. Cool” Minkoff. Watch it below.

“‘Feuds With Guns’ is one of the first songs written from our upcoming LP,” the group wrote in a press release. “This one is a good slow-dancer! Written almost entirely in the Cabanon at The Rigaud Ranch, this one started out as an organ and drum idea that morphed into a little OMD-style pop song.”

Speaking about the process of making the video, Dr. Cool explained: “I rotoscoped a couple of the big dives from a video of an extreme high-diving contest that took place in the 80s. About a week after I had animated the first guy’s big jump, I returned to the video to check out some other usable clips. I realized I had never watched the full clip of the first jump — I had just stopped once he hit the water. I found out that after he lands in the water he floats back up unconscious and then gets taken away on a stretcher. So now what was I supposed to do? People in the comments were asking what had happened but no one knew the answer. After a bunch of snooping around the internet I found the guy’s Facebook and he’s TOTALLY alive. His name is Pat and he lives in Florida. I messaged him but he hasn’t answered.”

The Besnard Lakes Are The Last Of The Great Thunderstorm Warnings arrives January 29 via Fat Cat/Flemish Eye. It includes the previously released singles ‘Raindrops’ and ‘Our Heads, Our Hearts On Fire Again’.

Jeff Rosenstock and Laura Stevenson Join Forces on New Song ‘Caring’

After joining forces on Still Young, a Neil Young covers EP released in honour of the legendary singer-songwriter’s 74th birthday last year, Jeff Rosenstock and fellow DIY artist Laura Stevenson have teamed up once again for an acoustic track called ‘CARING’, featuring Dan Potthast on pedal steel. Check it out below.

The track is taken from Rosenstock’s 2020 Dump series on Bandcamp, where he’s been sporadically releasing one-off tracks since in the early stages of lockdown in April. Stevenson also sang on the tracks ‘DEPT OF FINANCE’, ‘COLLAPSE!’, and ‘DONE DONE DONE’. Rosenstock’s most recent studio album was NO DREAM, released in May.
