Goat Girl have shared ‘motorway’, a new single from their upcoming LP Below the Waste. Following lead cut ‘ride around’, the track comes with a video directed by Holly Blakey. Check it out below.
“Goat Girl are some of the coolest and most inspiring people I’ve met recently and its been such a huge pleasure to realise this film with them!” Blakey said in a statement. “We wanted to make something that had a continual exasperation to it, rooted in fantasy, slightly broken and a playful reimagining of our ride on the Motorway”.
“The band spoke about these long drives they would go on as children or on tour and it reminded me of the times in my life when I’ve arrived at places, and also when I’ve left,” Blakey added. “I suppose in those moments I’m always observing, and when I do that, I find this curiosity into my own life. I guess I wanted to exploit the privacy we assume of our anonymous lives, our obsessions, our avoidance, our need for togetherness.”
Bay Area band Sour Widows have announced their debut LP, Revival of a Friend, which is due June 28 on Exploding in Sound. To mark the news, they’re sharing the new single ‘Cherish’, alongside a video directed by Carr Conaway. “’Cherish’ is a plea for love disguised as a curse against the world,” the band’s Maia Sinaiko reflected in a statement. “I started struggling with my mental health in my late teens, and the loss of my partner at age 21 – as well as the tumult of our relationship – exacerbated those issues. I was a very angry person, and I went through several years of being emotionally volatile. Both wanting to connect and be seen while being enraged at the state of my life, I would lash out just to make contact with someone, even if that contact was hurtful. To cherish something is to love it for all that it is. The song says everything I couldn’t say to my family and friends in that grief-stricken state; I hope it can serve as a reminder that we all deserve to be cherished through our hardships, even when we are at our most difficult to love.”

Thou have announced a new album, Umbilical, which is set for release on May 31 via Sacred Bones. Following the Louisiana sludge metal band’s 2020 collaborative album with Emma Ruth Rundle, May Our Chambers Be Full, the LP is led by the single ‘I Feel Nothing When You Cry’. Check it out below.

Of ‘I Feel Nothing When You Cry’, the band added: “A throwaway mantra scraped from the necrotic skin of syndicated television. A lugubrious nod to our favorite commode-crooning diva, one of her most diabolically terse lines. With the sweet, sultry whispers of a legendary New Orleans faerie. This might be as close as we’ll get to a positive, youth crew anthem. ‘This song has nothing original or of value. It’s a steady beat for dancing feet. You got what you wanted, now say the words…’”

Madi Diaz has teamed up with Lennon Stella for a new song called ‘One Less Question’. The pair debuted the track on last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Watch their performance and listen to the studio version below.
‘One Less Question’ is about “how real love doesn’t make you wonder, how it feels when you know in your whole body that this person is in your life to stay,” according to Diaz. “It’s unconditional. It’s trust. It’s true. It’s just one less question you have to answer because that person is an answer. What a beautiful thing to get to experience that feeling.”
“I’m beyond honored that Lennon let me record my version of this song, and the very idea that she said yes when I asked her to be a part of it couldn’t be more of a dream come true,” Diaz continued. “I’m honored to have her be a part of this story and I’m honored to be a small part of hers. This song simply wouldn’t exist if we hadn’t found one another.”
Stella added: “I love this song so much. Madi and I wrote it with Kate York, on the night of a hang at my house out in Leipers Fork. I am so excited for this one to be heard. It’s incredibly special to the three of us.”

Portishead’s Beth Gibbons has shared a new single, ‘Reaching Out’. The singer-songwriter worked with Aphex Twin collaborator Weirdcore for the song’s interactive video, which is meant to elicit “a sense of trying to reach each other in impossible ways,” according to a press release. A new remix of Björk and Rosalía’s ‘Oral’ by Swedish DJ and producer Olof Dreijer, formerly of the Knife, is out today. Listen to it below.
“I had a lot of fun making this remix! I really like Rosalia and Bjork’s voices together,” Dreijer shared in a statement. “Also this is the first time I play a tamborim that i got as a gift, a small drum usually heard in samba.”
‘Oral’, which Rosalia and Bjork produced with Sega Bodega, was released last November, with proceeds helping to pay the legal fees of people at the Fjord Seyðisfjörður who have stood up to protest against fish farming in their area.

The new song was written “in tribute to the 176 night bus and the unpredictable journeys on board,” the band explained. “Always a banger live, we feel like we’ve captured that heavy energy on record with some help from Dan Carey’s distortion machines.”
