Land of Talk has released ‘Pwintiques’, the second offering from their upcoming album Performances. Following lead single ‘Beautiful Self’, the track arrives with an accompanying video directed by Ana-Maria Espino Trudel. Check it out below.
“I’m so excited that this is a single,” the band’s Lizzie Powell said in a press release. “It originally started as a minute-long demo when I brought it to the studio. Rena [Kozak] and Laurie [Torres] really brought me out of my shell to expand it. I remember giving Laurie so many drum references like Fugazi, Tortoise, and Trans Am, and she kept on nailing it. Rena cut and edited some of these and built them into an epic whole. She made it into a gargantuan event. The last three minutes feature me and Laurie playing drums together. I loved all these bands when I was younger so this felt like a return or at least a tip of the hat to my teenage self. You can get lost along the way sometimes so it was nice to go back to my roots.”
“I’ve always loved the aesthetic of Twin Peaks, which is at once campy, creepy and scenic. I wanted to recreate some of these atmospheres by playing with colors, lighting and effects to create a sense of magic and otherworldliness,” Trudel added of the visual. “We were excited to get to riff on the idea of queering Twin Peaks with a nod to James and Donna played by Felicity DeCarle and her girlfriend Éléa Saunier. Lizzie’s enigmatic presence was a perfect counterweight to the cheesy love scene.”
Performances comes out October 13 via Saddle Creek.
L7 have released a new single, ‘Cooler Than Mars’. The track is available digitally and as a limited edition 1000-run flexi disc. Check it out below.
“The song was inspired by the ongoing catastrophic news of climate change, and the strange passions of billionaire space cowboys to explore and exploit the outer limits of our stratosphere,” the band’s Donita Sparks explained in a statement. “Seems to me such obsessions and resources should be totally focused on healing The Big Blue Marble. I feel like there is nothing ‘out there’ that is as mind-blowing as the biodiversity of what we have here on Earth. Because we’re cooler than Mars, damnit.”

Margo Price has previewed her upcoming album Strays II with three new songs. The country singer is rolling out the record in three installments, and the first act featured collaborations with Buck Meek and Jonathan Wilson. Act II: Mind Travel includes the songs ‘Black Wolf Blues’ and ‘Mind Travel’, which were co-written with her husband, the singer-songwriter Jeremy Ivey, as well as ‘Unoriginal Sin’, a collaboration with Mike Campbell. Take a listen below.
Price shared the following statement about the new songs:
The psychedelic journey continues down the blurry rabbit hole of time and space. We were lucky to have Mike Campbell co-write a dark rocker called ‘Unoriginal Sin.’ Working with him on some of these songs was like having a master class in songwriting. Sometimes there are dark corners you haven’t explored for some time, but it does some good to clean them out.
‘Mind Travel’ is one of the more lyrically strange songs I’ve written. Jeremy and I wrote it in South Carolina. It’s pretty much beat poetry on drugs with a back beat – it was influenced by having an out of body experience on psilocybin. We both had some pretty incredible breakthroughs about accepting death and just reckoning with how fast it’s all going. It’s okay to be reflective and remember the past as long as you don’t get stuck back there. This part of the trip is where you learn to be satisfied with the present.
I love how these songs came together. ‘Black Wolf Blues’ in particular, Jeremy started writing the words from my exact point of view – he found myself reflecting on my ancestors, my grandparents (Paul & Mary Price) and their love and how it grew despite the drought and the loss of their farm. I wrote the chords and the melody and helped finish the verses and chorus. Even though it has a sweetness and a nostalgic way about it, there is a looming darkness – the wolf who’s been watching and weaving his way like a stray throughout the entire album. Look for him. It’s like an invisible plague hanging in the air, it’s the man in the suit and tie who’s lying to you through his straight, white teeth. He hides in shadows.
Strays II, the follow-up to last year’s Strays, arrives on October 12 on Loma Vista.
Wilco have released ‘Cousin’, the title track from their forthcoming album. It’s the second single from the LP, following the previously released ‘Evicted’. Give it a listen below.
Cousin, which was produced by Cate Le Bon, is set for release on September 29 via dBpm Records.
Beth Orton and Skinny Pelembe have released a cover of Leonard Cohen’s 1974 track ‘Who By Fire’. Listen to it below.
The Partisan labelmates met by chance at Glastonbury earlier this summer, when Orton introduced herself to Skinny Pelembe following his West Holts Stage performance.
“I have always felt connected to the work of Leonard Cohen,” Orton explained in a statement. “I toured ‘I’m Your Man’ with an amazing cast of people, and every night I was intrigued by the mystery of ‘Who By Fire’. I was never totally satisfied that I understood the song. When Doya sent me his version I was immediately taken by the Serge Gainsbourg quality of the drums and the overall feel, and I loved the cheek and punk-like spirit of this version, and seeing as I was in a studio in Paris, I didn’t give a second thought to throwing myself into Doya’s re-interpretation. Climbing inside the words this way brought the meaning of the song into new focus, the passion and heart-breaking inevitability of human nature that Leonard Cohen writes of like no other came alive to me finally.”
“When I signed to Partisan, I remember having a conversation with Tim who founded the label as to whether Partisan was named after the Leonard Cohen song, ‘The Partisan’,” Skinny Pelembe added. “He told me it was. I’d just recently been in the studio with The Heliocentrics’ Malcolm Catto, and had a few great breaks left over from the album that I’d not used. So I had Leonard on the mind and Malcolm’s beat swimming round my subconscious. It all came together this summer when I asked Beth if she’d be up for singing on it too. She sent me a tonne of amazing vocal takes, all of them brilliant, so I kept them all. She’s got such a distinctive, raw, timeless voice. It’s almost weirdly medieval, I love it.”
Orton released her latest album, Weather Alive, in 2022. Skinny Pelembe’s sophomore LP, Hardly the Same Snake, arrived earlier this year.
In the world of watches, digital watches are often overlooked even though they serve a great purpose for those needing accessibility aid or typical fitness functions to improve their health. In this article, we’ll look at five suitable watches for fitness enthusiasts or those looking to keep a tab on their health while looking dapper.
Apple Watch Series 8 (Stainless Steel)
The Apple Watch is the most favoured smartwatch in the industry. Its easy-to-use functionality and integration with other Apple products make it a superb product for owners of iPhones or those simply looking for a reliable product that will aid their daily lives. Like other smartwatches, it’s an excellent tool for tracking health data to help improve your fitness or understand your body better.
Our current favourite Apple Watch is the Series 8, the predecessor to Series 9. For those who adore sleek appearances, the stainless steel edition has three colour variations: gold, silver, and graphite. You can also choose between 41mm and 45mm sizes, making it suitable for fashionistas and those looking for a more practical watch with a bigger screen. The watch currently starts from £729.
Things we like: Great at tracking data, minimalist design, and well interface.
FitBit Sense 2
Another great watch for assisting you on your fitness journey is the FitBit Sense 2. The modern case appearance is close to the Apple Watch. Indeed, it holds up great with its minimalist interface design that is easy to understand for people of all tech abilities.
The watch is made from aluminium, which will suit daily wear. Moreover, the typical battery life is 6+ days, so you’ll only need to charge this watch once a week — making it suitable for people with a busy schedule. The Sense 2 is a fitness-focused watch, so overall functionality should be considered if you’re looking to buy this watch. The watch currently sells for £269.99.
Things we like: Great battery, solid data tracking, and affordable.
Garmin Venu 3
Garmin is a brand many people forget about in the space of smartwatches. It’s undoubtedly no Apple or FitBit. Yet, it makes sturdy and decent-looking smartwatches suitable for gym lovers and those simply looking for a reliable watch for heavy-duty work.
Well, Garmin’s Venu 3 is their latest release and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Like the two above, it carries a minimalist interface and suits the contemporary lifestyle with its easy-to-understand controls. The watch starts from £449.99 and comes in two variations: 41mm and 45mm.
Things we like: Minimalist interface and suitability for various lifestyles including wheelchair users.
Pininfarina Senso Hybrid
Digital watches are rarely considered stylish, but Pininfarina through the help of Globics contended that movement and introduced the Senso Hybrid. A watch that blends technology and aesthetics to make a suitable timepiece not just for fitness enthuasiasts but for those looking to enter business and formal events looking stylish.
The Senso Hybrid, like others on the list, does a decent job at tracking data and aids in your everyday life with a dedicated app which tracks calories, steps, heart rate, and more to give you a fuller understanding of how your body is behaving, without sacrificing the traditional watch look. The watch starts at £399.00 and comes in four variations: slate grey, sunburst rose gold, mercure grey, and moonlight silver.
Things we like: The traditional aesthetic and easy-to-use crown to browse the functions of the watch.
Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4
To finalise our list, we enter the smartwatch luxury market with the Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4. While, Tag Heuer is primarily known for their Carerra, Monaco, Link, and Aquaracer timepieces, they haven’t shined away and took a big step by releasing their Connected Calibre E4 watch which comes in the 45mm, a size beloved in the digital watch space.
To no surprise, the Connected Calibre E4 is priced high in comparison to other watches on the list as it starts from £1,850 — meaning you could buy a few of the timepieces from above and have money left over. So, why is this watch so special? Well, like the Pininfarina, it’s stylish and still caries the brand name of Tag Heuer. Moreover, the case is made from steel and is aided by a sapphire crystal glass — just like the Apple Watch.

The Staves are back with a new song, ‘You Held It All’, their first new music since 2021’s Good Woman. The track, the band’s first for Communion Records, was produced by John Congleton in Los Angeles. Listen to it below.
“’You Held It All’ is a song about understanding, and the knots we tie ourselves in when we don’t express our truth; and how much power and freedom there can be when we do,” the Staves said in a press release.
‘You Held It All’ also marks the band’s first recording without Emily Staveley-Taylor, who stepped back from their last tour following the birth of her first baby and has recently had a second child.
All casino games have a string of superstitions associated with them – some more than others. In particular, the popular game of Bingo has a fair share of superstitions.
Delving further into the world of Bingo superstitions, it’s evident that many of them are purely just our minds trying to seek patterns in randomness.
Carry on reading to separate fact from fiction and see what some people believe about this chance-based game.
Does seating matter?
If you’re heading to a land-based Bingo hall, it’s time to pick a seat to begin daubing off your numbers.
A common superstition regarding this is that certain seats are ‘luckier’ than others, so some players won’t take a seat until a particular one is available, or refuse to move from their usual spot.
It’s important to remember that luck is just a concept, as Bingo is a chance-based game, so seat selection has no impact on a Bingo game’s result.
Can you see a full moon?
This is a common belief where individuals think that the presence of a full moon can influence various life aspects, including casino game outcomes, like Bingo.
Some believe they may have better chances of success during a full moon, whereas others might avoid playing a game.
With no scientific evidence supporting these claims, this is just another way to try and seek patterns in randomness, which cannot be found when it comes to Bingo.
What about the number seven?
In many cultures, the number seven is often considered a ‘lucky’ number. During a Bingo game, some players believe that crossing off a seven on their cards will bring success.
In reality, this superstition has no effect on the probability of shouting “Bingo”. This superstition can be easily disproved, as every number on a Bingo card has an equal chance of being called.
Do you have any “lucky” charms?
Many people own what they believe are lucky charms and many carry them around with them daily.
These could range from special jewellery to an item of clothing or a photo. Of course, these are lovely to have as a positive reminder, but there is no proven evidence to support them affecting Bingo outcomes.
You will still have the same chances of success if you bring your lucky charm to your next Bingo game, or you don’t.
Have you heard of “the winner’s curse”?
When attending a Bingo hall, some players believe that someone who has recently achieved a great prize is unlikely to find success anytime soon – known as “the winner’s curse”.
This superstition suggests that the universe balances this idea of ‘luck’, although this isn’t supported by any logical evidence.
The outcomes of a game are random, so a current win or loss can’t influence future results.
—
With five Bingo superstitions that you might have heard of, has this article changed your view on any?
The key point to remember before playing any Bingo game is that every game is random and you’ll never know what might happen next. What will be the outcome of the next Bingo game you play?
Over the past few decades, vehicle manufacturers and city planners have put various measures in place to prevent accidents, but they still happen. This begs the question, what’s causing all these accidents? Let’s take a look.
Drunk Driving
Drunk driving and driving under the influence of other mind-altering substances remain the No. 1 cause of car accidents worldwide, not just in Houston.
Driving under the influence significantly impairs a driver’s ability to control the vehicle. Alcohol also lowers inhibitions. It may encourage greater risk-taking, including speeding and taking reckless maneuvers on the road. What’s even worse is that alcohol and other drugs affect your fine motor function, making it difficult to respond to emergencies promptly.
Distracted Driving
Nearly3,000 people die due to distracted driving every year. This accounts for 8-9% of all fatal accidents in the U.S. These statistics are alarming, to say the least. This is because distracted driving is almost completely preventable in most situations.
Even simple distractions like texting or talking to your fellow occupants in the vehicle can significantly reduce your ability to keep the vehicle in the lane and limit reaction time.
Reckless Driving and Road Rage
Road rage is a common occurrence on U.S. roads. People are prone to making mistakes on the road, intentionally or unintentionally. When this happens, other road users may get annoyed and try to provoke the reckless driver by driving recklessly themselves with the aim of ‘teaching’ the reckless driver a lesson.
Doing this exacerbates the possibility of accidents, which puts everyone on the road at risk – even innocent road users with nothing to do with it.
Speeding
Driving over the speed limit has become casually acceptable, not just in Houston but in most places around the world. And, as faster vehicles hit the market every other day, the number of accidents caused by speeding drivers has significantly increased. In fact,2020 alone saw 12,330 fatalities in car accidents where speed was the contributing factor.
Some studies, backed by scientific evidence, including assumptions from Newton’s laws of motion, suggest that the risk of dying in a car crash increases with every 10 mph of increased speed when driving above 50 mph. This means that increasing your speed from 60 mph to 80 mph quadruples your chances of dying in a car crash.
Running Stop Signs
More than 50% of all reported accidents, including fatal accidents, occur at or near intersections. The reasoning behind this is pretty simple – people often run the stop sign, especially if they don’t see a cop around.
This is even more prevalent on stop signs because even if you stop, you must judge when it’s safe to proceed. The problem with this is that not everyone has the patience for it. It causes some drivers to misjudge when it is safe to proceed.
There’s also the possibility of getting rammed from behind when you stop at an intersection by a reckless or distracted driver.
Improper Turns
Improper turns are some of the most common pre-crash events on U.S. roads. Left turns present the highest percentage of accidents, followed by right turns and U-turns. While most of these accidents occur at intersections, lane crossing into oncoming traffic or turning into parking spots also account for a great deal of accidents.
Most accidents due to improper turns occur when a driver fails to use a turn signal. This prompts other road users, including drivers and motorists, to ram into them, resulting in T-bone collisions.
The worst thing about T-bone collisions is that the ramming vehicle comes at incredible speeds, thus exerting a catastrophic force on both vehicles. In most cases, T-bone accidents result in serious injuries and even death.
Running Red and Yellow Lights
Traffic lights are configured such that running any signal may put you directly in the path of incoming traffic. This is most common around intersections, especially when the yellow light is on.
Typically, the yellow light precedes the red light. While some states treat the yellow light as the red light, running a yellow light is not strictly prohibited in Texas. This is meant to give the driver ample time to slow down before they have to stop. It also allows drivers to proceed through an intersection if they determine they don’t have enough time to stop.
Unfortunately, most drivers go with the latter. So, instead of slowing down, they speed up to beat the light. When this happens at an intersection, the speeding driver is at higher risk of driving into oncoming traffic from other drivers doing the same thing.
Poor Weather
Although it represents a majority of accident causes, you can’t blame all accidents on human error. Sometimes, the weather plays a major part in causing fatal accidents. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, nearly 60,000 crashes that occurred in 2019 were due to poor weather.
Bad weather can considerably limit your ability to control the vehicle and increase the chances of ramming into oncoming traffic. These include poor visibility and slippery roads due to rain or icy conditions.
Road Hazards
As a tax-paying citizen, you rightly expect roads to remain clear of hazards. This is because potholes, debris, and other hazards may cause you to lose control. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. What’s even worse is the parties responsible don’t always put up signs to warn of impending hazards down the road.
Most accidents due to road hazards occur when a person driving at high speeds hits a pothole or other hazards. It causes them to lose control and veer off the lane. In worst-case scenarios, this results in damage to the vehicle or even collision with other vehicles.
The Bottom Line
Accidents aren’t preventable, but knowing what causes them can help keep you safe to some extent. When you get into a car accident, it is advisable to seek an experienced personal injury lawyer to increase your chances of getting compensation.
