Gucci Goes Fur-Free In 2018

0

The infamous Italian Fashion house is set to go fur-free in Spring/Summer 2018, following the footsteps of Armani who went fur-free in Autumn/Winter 2016.

The CEO Marco Bizzarri and the Creative Director for Gucci Alessandro Michele, have the same core values for the company and took the step to end the use of fur. This movement was made as the brand’s commitment to “sustainability”.

“Being socially responsible is one of Gucci’s core values, and we will continue to strive to do better for the environment and animals.” – Mr Bizzarri

This change means that the powerhouse will no longer use animals such as mink, coyote, raccoon, rabbits and any other animals that are caught or bred. Gucci will auction off any animal fur items they have remaining with the money going towards animal rights organisations.

Kitty Block, president of Humane Society International, celebrated the luxury brand’s move as a “compassionate decision”

“For this Italian powerhouse to end the use of fur because of the cruelty involved will have a huge ripple effect throughout the world of fashion”

Gucci will join and become part of the Fur Free Alliance, which has more than 40 organisations including Stella McCartney, which is owned by the Kering group.

Sylvester Stallone says he will be directing ‘Creed 2’

0

After many hints and posts, it is official that Sylvester Stallone will be directing Creed 2.

To some surprise, the founder of the Rocky franchise Sylvester Stallone will be directing the upcoming film in the franchise named ‘Creed 2’. Previous film ‘Creed’ which was released in 2015 was directed by Ryan Coogler, who also directed such films as Fruitvale Station and the upcoming 2018 film ‘Black Panthers’.

The news came out when Sylvester Stallone posted a picture of him and Michael B Jordan on Instagram with a caption“Looking forward to directing and Producing The incredibly talented Michael B Jordan in CREED 2 next year … One more Round!”.

‘Creed 2’ will look to bring back Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), a character from Rocky IV who Rocky manages to defeat. Ivan Drago is mostly known for his brutal fight with Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), which he kills in a brutal bout. With this connection in mind the son, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) will likely bring back the memories for Rocky and Ivan in Creed 2 as the franchise will look to refresh the wounds.

‘Blade Runner 2049’ tops the weekend Box Office

0

Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 unsurprisingly topped the weekend Box Office.

‘Blade Runner 2049’ managed to gross a disappointing $31.5 million domestically, whilst it cashed in a more impressive amount $81.7 million worldwide.

In second place came ‘The Mountain Between Us’ featuring Idris Elba and Kate Winslet which managed to cash in a less impressive $10.1 million domestically. Whilst September’s record breaking horror film ‘It’ managed to get close to second with $9.6 million.

Not too disappointingly for Lionsgate in fourth came ‘My Little Pony: The Movie’ which managed to cash in $8.8 million, whilst in close fifth came ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ with $8.1 million.

This weekend’s big let down is ‘Blade Runner 2049’ which topped the weekend box office but did not manage to get the projected $45 to 50 million by Warner Bros.

Review: The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (2017)

Baumbauch explores several familial themes in his latest comedy-drama film The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) and does so rather successfully.

The film follows the Meyerowitz family, who may look at times dysfunctional but in many ways come off as very normal. The film follows several family characters firstly Harold Meyerowitz who is played by Dustin Hoffman who is the father of the family, an artist who never really made it and therefore protests in his own stubborn ways. Whilst, his three children Danny, Matthew and Jean played by Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Elizabeth Marvel are here trying to pick up the pieces whilst getting their own relationships with each other back to normal.

To begin, the film is fantastic. Other than having a great story it engages well with its audience and has some great subtle and abrupt humour, which is achieved through terrific comedic editing and New York-ish humour. The acting in this film is solid, with great performances by Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler and Dustin Hoffman who explore a range of emotions and family dynamics. The stand out performances being by Sandler and Stiller who are normally known for their tad cheap comedies that do not go far critically. However, this time Sandler pulled through in this serious role by maintaining himself well – just like in ‘Punch Drunk Love’ showcasing he can act well. Whilst, Stiller put an amazing performance in a long and emotional speech about his dad, which really sold the film to me.

The film’s flaws do not go too far and could be argued are too weak to damage the body of the film, with some scenes arguably taking too long to come through but in many ways just showcasing the agonising pains the characters are going through with their past and current situations. Another flaw that I feel let down the film is the introduction of characters, even though it was done comedically I felt like it restarted the engine of the film too much at times and therefore made the film feel stuttery. As for those that think the name is too long and complicated, this is not an issue for me and in fact I think it is an artistic and a refreshing way to name a film.

Overall, the film is worth a watch and a film that is worth buying. With Netflix having the rights to the film, millions of subscribers will be happy to enjoy this refreshing family-based comedy. Baumbauch has outdone himself and hopefully can spark more great collaborations between this cast and crew. ‘The Meyerowitz Stories’ is heartwarming and honest, which what so many family dramas lack nowadays.
