Rosie Thomas Covers the Bangles’ Eternal Flame’

Rosie Thomas has offered her take on the Bangles’ classic ‘Eternal Flame’, with help from fellow singer-songwriters William Fitzsimmons and Denison Witmer. Listen to it below.

The cover will appear Thomas’ upcoming EP, the second in her Lullabies for Parents series, alongside the Iron & Wine collaboration ‘Fly Little Crow’. “When we were working on the Lullabies For Parents series, and thinking about covers to add, this one felt pretty obvious,” Thomas said in a statement. “We wanted to hit on older pop songs parents know and love, but also worked as lullabies. A way to scratch that nostalgic itch, while reframing the songs to give them a new life for listeners. We would then do “casting” for who should sing on certain songs, and both William and Denison were the clear choice for this one.”

The Lullabies for Parents, Vol. 2 EP arrives March 30.

Tanlines Announce New Album ‘The Big Mess’, Share New Single ‘Outer Banks’

Tanlines, the duo of Eric Emm and Jesse Cohen, have announced their first LP in eight years. It’s called The Big Mess, and it will be released on May 19 via Merge. Today, they’ve shared a video for the lead single ‘Outer Banks’, which you can check out below, along with the album artwork and tracklist.

“This song is about being a perfectionist. When I was younger, I thought that being called that was a compliment,” Emm explained in a statement. “But I’ve come to realize it’s actually a liability. This is especially true in any kind of partnership. Making concessions, adjustments and letting things go are all components of a successful endeavor.”

Of the video, Cohen added: “I’ve spent the last few years in work environments where the deck seems to have become the primary communication tool for young professionals. I wanted to find a way to use that language to tell the story of our song, ‘Outer Banks.’ Hopefully this video resonates and tickles anyone who has sat through the kind of presentation at work where someone in a box on the screen just reads the slides out loud. Welcome to Tanlines’ hybrid work era!”

The Big Mess started coming together after Emm and his family moved from Brooklyn to rural Connecticut, while Cohen launched a marketing career and a podcast. “I spent years figuring out in my mind, ‘What is my musical life going to look like?’” Emm said. “I just kept writing.”

In January 2022, Cohen joined Emm at his Connecticut studio to record The Big Mess alongside Patrick Ford. Emm commented, “I think of these songs as Rothko paintings: They’re big and they’re bold and they’re seemingly straightforward, but they have a lot of depth and they engage with you and make you feel something.”

deathcrash have shared a new single called ‘Duffy’s’. It’s the second single off their upcoming album Less, which is out March 17 and was led by the track ‘Empty Heavy’. Check out a video for it below.

“It alternates between very sparse slowcore sections and more open, catchy melodies and riffs,” bassist Patrick Fitzgerald said of ‘Duffy’s’ in a statement. “It’s not in a rush, but it does give in to something, a lightness maybe.”

The accompanying visual, he added, “aims to capture this lightness, and the sometimes fun and sometimes frustrating process of making and recording music together. I’d been doing a lot of filming of the band, and I brought up a camera to Scotland to document the process. Joe helped out filming when I wasn’t available and I had all this footage for a longer project. It only came to us later down the line that it might be fun to cut together a more DIY and personal video to Duffy’s, one which showed us a bit more.”
