Night Moves Release New Single ‘Feel Another Day’

Night Moves have released a new single called ‘Feel Another Day’. Following ‘Vulnerable Hours’ and ‘Fallacy Actually’, the track is the latest in a series of tracks the Minneapolis-based quartet recorded d at Pachyderm Studios with producer John Agnello. Give it a listen below.

According to frontman John Pelant, the new song is about “being a sad bastard, bloated and alone in the haze, and losing your love over and over again.” Pelant added: “A well-constructed song does most of the heavy lifting, or so I tell myself… This one is probably the closest I am to all the songs, it’s the kid I secretly love the most. I recorded the guitar solo 80 different ways at home because I felt the studio takes were not good enough. If you lose your enchantment you are really in a bad place. Sometimes you have to go with your gut.”

Watch Thao Cover Björk’s ‘Human Behavior’ for Mental Health Awareness Month

Thao Nguyen, formerly of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, has collaborated with the non-profit organization Sounds of Saving to perform a cover for Mental Health Awareness Month. Watch her take on Björk’s ‘Human Behavior’ below.

“I chose Bjork’s ‘Human Behavior’ because to me it marks a renewal and a revival of my own interest in music, in my own recommitment to the joy of music,” Nguyen said in a statement. “Growing up, most of the access to music I had was only the radio. I didn’t have an in to music that wasn’t easily accessible to me, you know? And so to choose a song that I don’t know that well by an artist that I don’t know that well, but whose energy and whose commitment and devotion to music is so well known, it was a great opportunity to embody the difference that I’m looking for.”

Wilco Share Video for New Song ‘Tired of Taking It Out on You’

Wilco have shared a new song, ‘Tired of Taking It Out on You’, the second offering from their upcoming album Cruel Country. Following lead single ‘Falling Apart (Right Now)’, the track comes alongside the announcement of a 2022 North American tour. Check it out and find the list of dates below.

“I’ve realized over the years that a lot of the songs I’ve written have worked as reminders to myself to pay attention to various things,” Jeff Tweedy said of the new track in a statement. “Sometimes I think I’ve figured out how the world works in some small way, and I worry I’ll forget it if I don’t sing it back to myself occasionally. This song, I believe, is going to come in handy for just that purpose. I’m a person who needs to stay alert to how I’m treating others when I’m not feeling my best. And now that I mention it, when I look around, it seems like a lot of us have been taking things out on each other when we would be better served striving for understanding and empathy. I’m just trying to be honest with myself, and I guess I’m hoping if this song can help me focus on that, maybe someone else could find it useful in the same way.”

Julia Jacklin Announces New Album ‘PRE PLEASURE’, Releases Video for New Song

Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin has announced a new album called PRE PLEASURE, which is slated for release on August 26 via Transgressive Records. Today’s announcement comes with the release of the new single ‘Lydia Wears a Cross’, alongside an accompanying video. Check it out below, and scroll down for the album cover and tracklist as well as Jacklin’s upcoming tour dates.

“The song is about a lot of things but mainly being a 7yr old Jesus Christ superstar fanatic attending catholic school trying to figure out which way is up,” Jacklin said of ‘Lydia Wears a Cross’ in a press release. “The music video was filmed by my constant collaborator and friend Nick Mckk at Splitpoint lighthouse. I played a show close by recently and asked on stage if anyone could let me film inside. Someone in the crowd knew a guy and that was it. The rest was filmed in the streets of Northcote, Melbourne.”

“A lot of the time I feel like I need to do all the work before I can enjoy my life,” Jacklin added of the album. “Whether that’s work on songs or sex, friendships, or my relationship with my family – I think if I work on them long and hard enough, eventually I’ll get to sit around and really enjoy them. But that’s not how anything works is it. It’s all an ongoing process.”

Jacklin recorded the follow-up to 2019’s Crushing in Montreal with co-producer Marcus Paquin, collaborating with her touring band of bassist Ben Whiteley and guitarist Will Kidman, who both play in the Weather Station. The album also features drummer Laurie Torres, saxophonist Adam Kinner, and string arrangements from Owen Pallett (Arcade Fire).

“Making a record to me has always just been about the experience, a new experience in a new place with a new person at the desk, taking the plunge and just seeing what happens,” Jacklin explained. “For the first time I stepped away from the guitar, and wrote a lot of the album on the Roland keyboard in my apartment in Montreal with its inbuilt band tracks. I blu-tacked reams of butcher paper to the walls, covered in lyrics and ideas, praying to the music gods that my brain would arrange everything in time.”

Gentle Sinners (Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffat and The Twilight Sad’s James Graham) Announce Debut Album, Share New Song

Gentle Sinners, the new project of Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffat and The Twilight Sad’s James Graham, have announced their debut album. These Actions Cannot Be Undone is set for release on May 13 via Rock Action. It’s being previewed by the new single ‘Landfill’, which follows the recently released ‘Face To Fire (After Nyman)’. Check out its Kieran Howe-directed video and find the LP’s cover art and tracklist below.

“Gentle sin’ is a wee phrase I’ve always liked,” Moffat explained in a press release. “In the play it’s part of a flirtatious kiss, where the rules of etiquette are broken with a cheeky wink, sort of like a Shakespearean Sid James moment. But with a different kind of sinning in mind, I thought it really suited the songs we were making too, i.e. mistakes and disasters without pity or malice.”

Speaking about the new track, Graham said:

My mental health was at the worst it’s ever been. It was starting to physically manifest and for, the first time in my life, I needed medication to help me. I had resisted it for years as I thought I would be failing my family, but that was so wrong of me. There should be no stigma in seeking medical help for your mental health. I wanted to address those stigmas. I wanted to address the anxieties about asking for help. I grew up in a society where talking openly about mental health was something that just didn’t happen. People who were brave enough to speak about their problems were instantly judged. That needs to change. The brain is an organ just like any other part of your body and will react to stress like any other organ or muscle. Realising it wasn’t my fault and that there is no shame was a massive thing for me. This song is the manifestation of those feelings.

Howe added of the video:

This incredible track reminded me of a recurring dream I have where I’m running, yet unable to move. Often these dreams are plagued with memories of better times, memories that are all too painful to re-experience. These are the things that keep me up at night, and to be able to express them visually was a wholly cathartic experience. The music is so full of sobering honesty, as a director I felt I couldn’t shy away from my inner most feelings. Hopefully we captured something that conveys how it feels to be in pain, and to be struggling with your mental health. In the same way that James and Aidan have inspired me to express these feelings, I hope this video might do the same for others. It’s been a thrill to work with them on this music video.

Pale Waves Announce New Album ‘Unwanted’, Share New Song ‘Lies’

Pale Waves have announced their third album, Unwanted, which will arrive on August 12 via Dirty Hit. Today, the band has shared a new single called ‘Lies’, which was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Zakk Cervini. Check it out below.

“‘Lies’ is about someone who built up my trust and destroyed it like a wrecking ball,” frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie said in a statement. “It caused some real trust issues, but fortunately for me that person is no longer in my life. Once you do me wrong you’re gone!”

Unwanted follows Pale Waves’ 2021 album Who Am I?. “It was really the only thing this album could be called,” Baron-Gracie added. “It’s bold and unapologetic, and that’s what the Pale Waves community is about. We don’t need to fit a perfect mould, we don’t need to apologise for being ourselves, and we won’t change for anyone. That acceptance is what connects us.”

Stella Donnelly Announces New Album ‘Flood’, Shares Video for New Single ‘Lungs’

Stella Donnelly has announced her new album, Flood, with a video for the new single ‘Lungs’. The follow-up to her 2019 debut Beware of the Dogs is set to arrive on August 26 via Secretly Canadian. In a statement, Donnelly described ‘Lungs’ as an “attempt to tell a story of classism and city limits suburbia through the honesty of a child.” Check it out below.

Donnelly co-produced Flood alongside Anna Laverty and Methyl Ethyl’s Jake Webb, with whom she recently collaborated on the track ‘Proof’. According to a press release, working with Webb allowed Donnelly to discover a “forward-leaning sound,” while Laverty’s “ability to ‘capture the piano’ and discern the ‘perfect take’ allowed the songwriter to take risks.” The album was recorded at RADA, Tunafish and Fremantle Recording Studios in Western Australia, with additional recordings at The Waffle Pad in Castlemaine, Victoria.

“Like the last record, Flood is another compilation of diary entries and fictional stories that allow me to expand on moments between humans,” Donnelly said.

What Are The Best Eco Friendly Gadgets For Your Home?

Over the past few years, there has been a large public push to become more conscious about our impact on the environment. Green ideas and tools have been pushed as well as tips on how to live in a sustainable manner.

It’s up to all of us as individuals to do our part in minimising energy efficiency to be more environmentally friendly and reducing your footprint starts at home. So, what are some fancy gadgets that you can use at home to make your home more efficient and environmentally friendly?

LED Smart Bulbs

Traditional light bulbs aren’t very energy efficient, we’ve known this for a while and worked to produce more energy efficient bulbs over the years. But even bulbs that would be considered efficient 10 years ago are now seen as wasteful, as they end up generating more heat from your electricity than they do light!

Luckily, we have reached almost peak efficiency with LED bulbs, as LEDs use a lot less energy to generate light compared to all other types of bulbs, making them the most efficient type of bulb on the market. You can take this a step further with LED smart bulbs, which can be remotely controlled, put onto timers and turn themselves off automatically to ensure they’re only using electricity when thy’re needed!

Solar Powered Blinds

As smart home gadgets become more common, we’re seeing that our electricity usage at home is growing as we have all of these smart devices that constantly need energy to be ready for you to use them in your home. While we’re happy with the functionality smart gadgets bring, the increased yuse of electricity can be concerning.

So, you should look for gadgets that can be powered ‘off the grid’, one of these gadgets would be solar powered electric blinds, these blinds work like any other electric blinds, but rather than being powered by mains electricity, they come with a solar charger that keeps the blinds charged up using only the power from the Sun, meaning you’re saving money and powering your blinds with 100% clean, green energy.

Smart Power Strips

Even when you turn your home’s electronic devices off, they can still use electricity to keep them in their standby mode. Even when you think all your devices are turned off, they’ll still consume some electricity in the background which isn’t ideal for either your utility bills or the environment. The only way you can be 100% sure an electric device isn’t using electricity is to unplug it from the outlet, which can be more hassle than it’s worth.

You can counter these ‘energy vampires’ at home, by investing in a smart plug or a smart power strip, these are outlet plugs that can be remotely controlled, meaning that with just a single click of a button, you can fully turn off any electronic device in your home to stop them passively using your electricity.

SodaStream

Every single minute, around 1,000,000 plastic bottles of water are purchased across the globe, this works out to over 500 billion plastic bottles of water being sold every year worldwide. Data shows that less than half of the plastic bottles sold each year are collected for recycling and just 7% of the bottles that do get collected end up being recycled. So, cutting down on plastic bottles of water can help you lower your impact on the environment as you move away from single use plastics.

A great way to cut down on single use plastics is to have a long term sustainable solution, like a soda stream bottle, which is a reusable bottle for any drinks, but it can be used with a soda stream to carbonate water at home, so with this device you can make your own carbonated water and sodas at home, without needing to purchase a new plastic bottle
